This list proves that beta male soy cuck culture was around well before the 2010s. The fact that the song YMCA in 1978 even made it out of the bathroom that the janitorial crew was scrubbing that evening is pathetic. But a ton of rejects liked it then and degenerate millennials like it now. Shows how many more virgins there are/were than many ever thought.
Especially since it made it over a great song like September

Man music these days is really terrible.

The 90s and after...damn. Other than Nirvana, that is a load of crap.

This list really makes little sense. Just looking at 1986 "Living On A Prayer".
Yes it was released as a single on 10/31/86, but it wasn't even in the Top 40 by the last Hot100 chart of 1986 (12/27/86- 48th)
It really wasn't until 1987 that it became ubiquitous. The highest only Bon Jovi song on the Year End chart of 1986 was You Give Love A Bad Name at 38. What about Sledgehammer, or Kiss, or Addicted To Love. Hell even Eddie Murphy's Party All The Time was 7th on the year end chart.
Livin' On A Prayer was only 10th on the 1987 chart but I'd list it there more than 1986.
Pour Some Sugar On Me isn't even in the Top 100 on the Year End singles chart for 1987.

In addition, Thriller was released 11/2/1983. So according to the list's own rules, it cannot be the most iconic song for 1984.
Songs released in 1984, Like A Virgin, Ghostbusters, When Doves Cry, Jump, Footloose, Take On Me, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, Careless Whisper.

quote:I'm thinking it might be like the old adage that the-banjo player sucks. It's an old-thyme or bluegrass notion that most anyone else had to learn to play their instruments, but since the banjo is open-tuned most everyone can blindly plink away... make noise in the right key.
Man music these days is really terrible.
Now (TODAY) most everyone can push whatever they want with the hope of striking it big (like the talented banjur player) and before the internet musicians had to convince a company to bankroll them to fame. In other words be discovered and not just published. I'm of the mind that given a multitude of options there's still as many good choices still waiting to be discovered or shared.

Thriller in 84 is a joke.

Agreed. But this isn't my list, I simply stole it from YouTube.

Ghostbusters or Take On Me would be my personal choices for most iconic song of 1984.

Oh I know. Just commenting on what you posted. I looked at the channel's other "lists". Britney's Baby One More Time is listed as the 3rd most iconic song of ALL TIME in their opinion. Yeah...no. LOL

1967 is “white rabbit”
there is no more iconic bit of psychedelia than that

Yeah Respect was a cover of a 65 Otis Redding song. not really iconic for the summer of love. Light My Fire would also work.

The fact the last rock song to make the charts was Linkin Park in 2001 shows how quickly the mainstream changed

I can’t think of another chart that could more clearly show the decline, and point to the impending collapse, of Western civilization than this one.

I think there's a lot of truth to this. The barrier to entry into the music world has been lowered. So there is a lot more talent-less music out there. That's not to say that there isn't a lot of good music too but it's just harder to wade through all the crap now to find it.
But if you think banjo is easy to play, I've got news for you.

Well according to that chart, it looks like we bounced back from 73-78 OK. And of course in the mid 80's this list has songs in the wrong year and others that just simply are wrong which leads me to believe, this compiler is a moran!!!
