The worst concerts you have attended. And who have you seen that pleasantly surprised you?
1. Best concert for me was Van Halen. They sounded perfect.
2. Whitesnake and Kiss tied for last.
Too loud and not clear.
3. Dream Theater totally blew me
away. Wow we're they were just
awesome. Totally shocked me.

I've been fortunate to not have a bad concert.
As far as impressive vs expectations? In the early 80s, BOC had a stunning live show. A great animatronic Godzilla head, they brought a Harley on stage and were just flat out great live. Better than expected.
Holy shite, Ace. You're old AF.

Mojo Nixon at a bar near the LSU South Gate in 1988. He was hilarious and rockin' like hell.
His opening was a Donaldsonville band called The Dick Nixons, all of whose songs were about you-know-who ("Dick Nixon fought the law, and the law won" was one lyric of theirs -- another was "If you don't bring Dick Nixon back, We're gonna paint the White House black!").
I recall somebody was there with a video camera shooting the show -- I'd love to get a copy of that tape...
Weirdest show: Jonathan Richman c. '96, before an audience of perhaps 8 people. While Jonathan was singing a train derailed nearby and we had to evacuate the club...

I can't pick a worst or best, I've been to a lot of shows. Going to see Dream Theater again on Saturday.

Seen a ton of good ones. Foo Fighters (spare me the bullshite) were great. Saw them in 2011 and twice in 2018. They're REALLY tight live and put on one hell of a show. All 3 times they played 2.5+ hours. The Struts opened in 2018 and Motorhead opened in 2011. Both bands blew the fricking doors off.
Tool has been solid every time I've seen them. Lateralus tour 2004 maybe? BR 07 maybe?, and NOLA 2020.
Vince Gill is up there. Hell of a show and really showed off his guitar skills.
Worst? Hank Williams Jr. I know the whole "he doesn't play full songs" shite. It was terrible. He just wasn't good. 3 Doors Down was bad...2004 or 2005. Singer was clearly fricked up. Guitarist broke 3 strings in the first 30 minutes. Not "bad" by the band but Cross Canadian Ragweed at the varsity 2008 or 09 sucked. Some jackass kept screaming, "play Jenny!" Cody Canada got fed up, threw his guitar down, and the show was over.

Best- Metallica. Damaged Justice tour. Biloxi, August 1989. Enough said.
Worst - Probably Van Halen 1984 tour in the PMAC in June 1984. Sound wasn’t good and kind of a cheesy vibe. Was disappointing because they killed it at the Centroplex in November of 1982.
Kiss unmasked at UNO Lakefront with Krokus opening circa 1985 was pretty terrible too.

Hell yeah! If this was at the Centroplex in 1981 with Foghat opening, then I was there as well. I do think they played Baton Rouge the year before too though so not sure which one you’re talking about.

Both in the same night. Saga opened for Billy Squier at the TAC in Ruston. They were amazing!
And then came Billy. He was pretty bad.

Impressive side:
Kansas w/ LeRoux opening
Yes
The Who
Journey w/ The Babys opening (two very talented bands on top of their game)
Unimpressive side:
ZZ Top (love 'em, music was great, just too short a set)
Bad Company (ditto)
Queen

worst show for me was definitely blues traveler at red rocks on July 4 in 2016. They were godawful the the show was like 4 hours long…they don’t have enough material to play an hour much less 4. It was comical
best was probably billy strings NYE year before last
pleasant surprise was the roots

Best - Wet Willie in a small, stateline bar. Place was jammed in and high and they were rocking. Good thing there wasn't a fire.
Worst - Fleetwood Mac, New Orleans City Park, hot as Hell, people packed in, too far away from stage, and sounded like crap at that distance. Left early.

Most Impressive: Pink Floyd, Momentary Lapse stadium tour, 1988.
Worst: Slayer in a theater in the 80s
Surprised: Winger, last year. (Yes, Winger). They were incredibly tight and sounded great. I forgot how much talent is in that band.

I've been to a bunch of concerts that impressed the hell out of me. Hard to pinpoint one.
One of the worst was The Offspring. They were terrible live. They sounded like a cover band who didn't practice.

Best - Dream Theater (two shows - the Scenes from a Memory tour and the most recent set in Biloxi)
Pleasantly surprised - Katy Perry and Train at the Extravangza this year they were good
Mid - Metallica - I love them and they still put on a great show, but I'm too young for the late 80s early 90s shows and now the sound in the huge football stadiums they play is complete crap
Worst - Counting Crows - they butcher their songs with "improv" to where you can't even recognize them :

Not sure about the best because I've seen do many great ones.
But the worst, or most disappointing was Steve Winwood in 1988. He had a headset microphone on and was actually attempting to dance around a bit while he sang. It was embarrassing. The set was short and he sounded awful.

Watching Stevie Wonder perform from a few yards away at Jazz Fest will probably never be topped for me.
Me and my mom left Bob Dylan half way through his show. Couldn’t understand what the hell songs he was singing most of the time.
Very disappointing for my mom as she was a huge fan.

Best - Too Many. KISS, Stones, Floyd
Worst - Disturbed shouldn't play after KORN
Current Deep Purple shouldn't play after Judas Priest
Surprised - Duran Duran, didn't really want to go but enjoyed it.

Best is pretty hard because I’m pretty easy to please for a concert. Once I get a few drinks in all the big names I’ve seen have been great. I’d probably give it to one of the Elton John show I’ve been to though
Worst however is really easy. James Taylor in Baton Rouge back in 2016. What a horrible show that was it was dreadfully boring. Only show I’ve ever been to that started to clear out early. There was zero energy
