Most of the Foo Fighters catalogue sounds the same

Listening to the new record got me thinking.
Used to love this band as a kid, particularly their first two or three albums.
But most of their stuff sounds exactly the same and is just re hashed over and over.
Grohl is pretty talented, I wonder why he didn't experiment more with different sounds and genres?
He also sings almost the exact same way on every song, just kind of screaming.

They’re basically the slightly better version of Nickelback if we’re being honest. Chad rock at its finest.

It seems to me like Grohl did all of his experiments with side projects and kept Foo Fighters to a relatively consistent sound. Or, maybe Foo Fighters is just Dave Grohl being himself, and that’s why it always sounds the same. He hit a homerun commercially with his sound and never stopped being rewarded for it, so why change?
I’m constantly innovating and changing my sound. Part of it is that I’m a muti-facetted person who is constantly trying to reconcile internal chaos and inconsistencies while trying to “pick a lane” on my identity. Instead of sticking to one thing, I try to give every side of my personality a creative vehicle to express itself. It’s akin to someone with multiple personalities being like “Okay, on Mondays, Patricia gets to drive, on Tuesdays it’s David, and on Wednesdays we’ll be Saul…”
It could be speculation, but I feel like Dave is significantly less artistically conflicted, so he just makes the exact sounding music he wants, which just so happens to be one consistent sound that is unique to him. While all Foo Fighters music sounds sorta the same, it also doesn’t sound like anything else to me. I have never once confused another band’s song for the Foo Fighters or vice/versa, which is pretty telling, to be honest.

I like Dave Grohl. Rarely do I like the music he makes. Foo Fighters make boring music.

Foo are fantastic live imo

Silly, schlocky arena rock.
Grohl always starts out a song low/mellow tempo and ends up screaming something off key by the ending.
...My Hero, Best of You, Under You, Rescued....
All the same crap.

Agreed. I've never understood the love for them. I think they write solid yet boring, stagnant songs. They are an above average band that never did it for me

Always felt they were a pretty generic band with a couple of songs I liked.

Agree but this is exactly why they’ve been so successful.
Most people don’t really listen to the music they listen to.
Foo fighters are decent, inoffensive and cater to the general population of casual rock fans.
That makes them millions even if their music is fairly bland.

A large majority of their songs are very similar but I still enjoy the hell out of them regardless. Honestly really liked their most recent album.

They had some catchy songs in the mid to late 90’s but the amount of love they get from the music media elitists is strictly based on the fact that Grohl was the drummer for Nirvana & he is such a nice guy who is personally adored by almost everyone in the industry.

Have never been a big Foo Fighters fan, but Everlong is one of the best rock songs since the 80s.

Everlong is greatness no doubt

I could somewhat agree, but Wasting Light stands apart from the rest of their albums. I really enjoy that one. Everything they have done since has been very sub par. Think they shot their load on that one.

Their first album is front to back great. After that I could do without any of their stuff besides Everlong. That is a great great song.
