These 2 guys just made the highest selling single of all time.
20x Platinum and only song in history to go 2x diamond.
Apparently it was between them and Dont stop believin for a little while. Dont stop believing is currently at 18x Platinum.

quote:
“Don’t Stop Believin’” is now an 18-times platinum-certified single. That means that between pure sales and other forms of consumption–namely streaming–the song has shifted at least 18 million equivalent units in the United States alone.
Now that it’s been certified 18-times platinum, “Don’t Stop Believin’” ranks as the biggest song in America–but it’s not alone in this position. Journey’s most beloved single ties with the only track in U.S. history that has already reached that milestone. Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower”—officially titled “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse)”—was certified 18-times platinum last May.
So Dont stop believin was 18x Platinum certified last week, Sunflower was 18x last may and became 20x this morning.
quote:
Currently, the runner-up on the ranking of the most-consumed and most-certified songs in U.S. history is Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.” That single has been certified 17-times platinum, and it will surely improve that figure in the coming years. Three hits are tied at 16-times platinum status–Drake’s “God’s Plan,” Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” and Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive.”

People are probably about to shite all over it but its actually not a bad song, especially as far as modern day music goes.

Its a song in the spiderman cartoon movie.
Prob good to gear your music towards a wider audience if you want a huge hit.
This isnt fricking bitches get paid rap music.
Now im not saying i would listen to this song beyond the one time i heard it. Its just that its a song from a kids movie.

I’m an old white guy that usually listens to sports talk or jazz and I think it’s a hell of a catchy song.

Wrong Picture of Journey. Greg Rolle (in the middle) had left. Jonathon Cain played keyboard on Don't Stop Believing.

I'm not going to do that, as you say, "modern music"

But, not remotely in the galaxy of legendary rock tracks from yesteryear (e.g. Stairway, Bohemian Rhapsody, Don't Stop Believin', etc.)
Again, good for them, but overall bad for the culture that this is a standout modern track.

How do they quantify singles “sold” these days? Like I pay for Spotify so if I look up a specific song does it count as me buying as a single? Is it whenever I download/like the song so it’s on my liked list?

i couldn't name another post malone song and don't like anything else i've heard, but sunflower is a nice listen in just about any environment.
i wouldn't call it a banger or anything, but a pleasant song.
