Was watching music vids....
One thing lead to another. Find a dude (Noblemania) who took the process to a new height. The 'Nobleman' channel is referred to as an "Entertainment / Nostalgia" and research channel that's creating an "oral history". His focus here is on, "The Girl in the (MTV) Video". No one ever did know at the time who they were, and mostly didn't care. But over time it apparently became intriguing to a degree to those who had been watching (or re-watching) classic 20-30 year old music videos from the 1980s.
One of the main specific and compelling areas of interest of this project was in somehow tracking down the whereabouts of all those mysterious, beautiful women guys fantasized about back in those MTV videos of the 1980s. ('Noblemania' shares the process as well). 27 MTV videos and 29 women are featured.
Conducted in cordial interviews (phone or email), he catches readers up on the 80s MTV videos girls' memories & experiences at the time as well as what they'd been up to since. (yes, photos included at his site). It appears most interviews were conducted @ 8-10 years ago). The vast majority seem pleased to have been remembered; a few were not interested in the project.
Here are just a few of those MTV video girls:
The Girl in the Video ('Summer of ‘69' by Bryan Adams (AND 'Run To You')
Summer of 69 (vid)
(The girl-now-woman: Lysette Anthony.)
>
Interview
The Girl in the Video: “867-5309/Jenny” (1981) by Tommy Tutone
(The girl-now-woman: Karen Morton.)
Jenny/867-5309 (vid)
>
What did you think of the video?
I would do shows and turn the TV on when I was getting ready and say, “There I am!” I always remember putting my hand on the table. I remember combing my hair in that mirror. I didn’t know I would have to kiss that guy.
(*Note: Karen Morton passed away in 2014)
Interview
The Girl in the Video: “Legs” (1984), by ZZTOP part (1 of 3)
(The girl-now-woman: Wendy Frazier. [FWIW, other 'Legs' girls' interviews -- Kymberly Herrin and Danièle Arnaud -- are in separate posts.])
This is the Introduction to series “The Girl in the Video” (including list of interviewees).
>
How I (the Author) found Wendy:
* “richlunt” posted she’s from Marlborough, CT.
* The high school for Marlborough, RHAM, confirmed she was class of ‘81 but would not say (or knew) nothing more.
*On the chance that “richlunt” was a man named Rich(ard) Lunt, I searched “Lunt” in CT phone directory.
*Luckily, one was listed in Hebron, a town next to Marlborough and one of the towns that feeds into RHAM.
*The person at that number is related to Richard and gave me his number. (That number matched a Richard Lunt on Zabasearch.)
*I called and Richard’s wife gave me his e-mail.
*I did not hear back so I checked with a town librarian; she came up empty but suggested I call the town tax collector, who gave me three names, but two actually did not know the Fraziers and one said she’d pass word to her daughters. I did not hear back.
*I searched the web for “RHAM class of ‘81” and searched some of those names on Facebook. One ‘81 led me to others via her friends list (there’s an option to view friends by high school). I contacted several and then randomly chose one and searched “Frazier” on that person’s high school list. No luck, but when I searched it on her whole friends list, Wendy Frazier came up.

quote:
How old were you when you appeared in the first one?
I take the 5th. Seriously, I have no clue—you’ll have to do the maths. [She was born in 1963 and the video came out in 1985. Readers, you’ll have to do the maths.] I’m still friends with Bryan. No matter how decrepit we all become I’ll always be his Reckless girl. That’s kinda cool!
How did you feel making the video?
I had fun apart from a massive silent crush on Bryan. I’d never met anyone like him. But I suffered in silence! I was soooo young.

What have you been doing since “Jenny”?
[i]I worked for Cosmopolitan. I can’t find the magazine. The pictures were very, very pretty. I did another ad for Cosmo in a negligee.
After that I got a job at a bank and got fired the first day. I don’t remember why! Then I went to Long Beach State and learned makeup.
Since 2006, I’ve had this rare disease. I was allergic to a sulfur medication and came down with something called Stevens-Johnson syndrome. It’s named for two doctors in the twenties who recognized this. It sometimes goes undiagnosed. You burn from the inside out.

From what I remember I was brought into the final audition [during which] only a few girls were being considered. I got the part. As excited as I was, I felt I would never be able to compete with the sexy ZZ Top girls, gorgeous playmates who “knew how to use it.” I say that playfully—I was in awe of them.

The Girl in the Video: “Caught Up in You” (1982) by 38 Special
Were you a 38 Special fan?
Not in particular. I did like their music, but I was always more of a jazz and blues kind of gal. I had been a competitive ice skater, and my parents were big supporters of the arts, so classical, opera, and alternative were my usual fare.
Where was the video filmed?
It was a big club in Atlanta, midtown I think. I don’t recall the name of it.
How long was the shoot?
Looooong. Two days for “Caught Up in You” and another day or so on the other, but the hours were absurd. That’s what you get for taking non-union work! LOL.
How did you feel making the video?
How did I feel? Mmmm, well, it was a job. Fun to be moving instead of posing. I felt like it was a step in the direction I wanted to go, toward acting.
What was the hardest part of the shoot?
Being “up” when we’d been waiting on the set for 14 hours or so. Of course, after twenty-something years of working on sets, I’ve gotten used to conserving energy until I need to call it up. Being 18 or so helped, of course. Energy to burn!
How was it to work with 38 Special? What were they like? Did any of them hit on you?
No, nobody hit on me. My then-boyfriend was with me most of the time, and honestly, we barely saw the [band]. They spent their time off in a “green room” and were very difficult to get to the set. It was a bit annoying, but I understood that they had been on tour and were exhausted. This was fun time for them, so there was a good bit of drinking and joking around. That was tough on the crew working such long hours.
Caught Up In You
Great tune. (also check out all the various dress-styles of 1982 on display in this vid AND different stereotype bar characters (including the band members). ANYTHING and everything went. Interesting time capsule.

>
Where was the video filmed?
In a film studio in Fulham, London.
How long was the shoot?
It was a two-day shoot. But the animation was done in America and took nine months. It was done by Mike Patterson and his wife Candice.
How did you feel making the video?
I enjoyed it very much.
What was the hardest part of the shoot?
Crying at the end.
What did you think of the video?
When I saw it nine months after the shoot after the animation was completed, I thought it was amazing.

Of all the MTV Girls in the Video series/interviews, this one -- Kymberly Herrin -- got around the most by far in "that LA scene". Several kinds of Videos. Movies. Her interview and memories of happenstance and her life is most fascinating.

quote:
Website-Channel Author/Interviewer:
("In 'I Want My MTV' by Rob Tannenbaum and Craig Marks, ZZ Topper Billy Gibbons describes Kym as a “groovy hippie chick” (page 119). Her patience is certainly groovy, as it took me several months of trying to reach her before I knew she was on board. Kym was the second ZZ Top girl to opt for an essay rather than a Q&A-format answer.")
Kymberly Herrin:
"The first time I saw a ZZ Top video, I was in a club and “Sharp Dressed Man” came on. I recognized one of the models, a centerfold friend of mine, Jeana Tomasino. She was one of the three hot ZZ Top girls. I remember thinking, “Wow, I would love to do one of these MTV videos. This band is so good. The girls are super hot.” The director [Tim Newman] was the first to use three girls in videos. Everyone started using three girls after (“Addicted to Love”). [MTN: Actually five girls!]...
"...I looked in the window into the waiting room and there must have been somewhere around 15-20 beautiful girls. Miniskirts, high heels, perfect hair, nails, and makeup. I came so close to leaving, getting on the 101 freeway, and hightailing it home. I walked into the room and the girls [looked] me up and down, [as if] thinking, “Oh, she’s no competition.”
"They called my name and I met the boys in the band. I apologized for my appearance. Then I asked if anyone had mineral water—or better, a beer. They must have been thirsty, also. Out came the beer and we started talking about everything—motorcycles, chili cook-offs, Santa Barbara…and we had mutual friends in S.B. They were super nice guys. We hit it off.
"...there was the casting call. Be there today and I had one hour. I flipped out. I found the building. I was wearing a T-shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. I had nothing [else] in my car to wear I went home and told my friends there was no way I was going to get the job. I looked like crap; I [hadn’t even used] a hairbrush. Next day a call came from my agent: I got a callback. I couldn’t believe it. This time I was dressed to kill, the works…
"...I was also one of the girls in the “California Girls” video—the Van Halen guy with the long blond hair. [MTN: We think it may actually be a different David Lee Roth video.] No comment on that shoot.
"David Lee Roth…
"This guy lined us up wearing the smallest bathing suits we had and high heels on the top of a high-rise building in L.A. I decided to [go with] the Sheena/Tarzan look. I was very tan at the time and my girlfriend made me a chamois swimsuit and I wore African accessories. [Roth] made us all step forward, one at a time; he eyed us up and down and said “no,” “no way,” “uh-uh,” “back up,” “you can go,” or “yes, step over there.” He was just sooooo rude in his way of casting. The way he [made] the choices made us feel cheap...
"I was on two Playboy covers [9/82 and 9/83] and worked for Playboy for quite some time. I made lots of money. Headshots cost $10-15 each. That’s less than [what is charged at] the conventions. I’ve been to a lot of promotion[al events] where I sign autographs; I went to one huge autograph show in L.A. a long time ago...I have done numerous interviews with magazines and newspapers. Please be one who prints the truth. Do not take me out of context.
"Last time I spoke to Hef [Hugh Hefner] was after the fire. I reordered a necklace, a gift that he’d given us at a reunion. I’d gotten my earlier though. A diamond bunny necklace...."
