The first truly great album by arguably the best band of the century was released 20 years ago today. To this day, I’m not sure if I prefer the polished perfection of Boxer or the looser, grittier Alligator. Either way both are 10/10 albums.

Saw them twice in London along with Sufjan Stevens who played with them. Unbelievable shows.

This is true. I say that as a person who prefers High Violet to both of them. Alligator was my entry point, but I love just about everything they’ve done since then, with Sleep Well Beast being the exception.

The Boxer just sounds more complete, more connected.
Both 10/10s but if you make me choose it's probably Boxer.
