Cherry Pie was the first CD that I ever bought. Glad I got to see them live.
August 11, 2011, Jani Lane dies, was a singer-songwriter and the vocalist and former frontman, lyricist and primary songwriter for WARRANT.

His vocal talent and song writing was totally under rated. I think that Warrant peaked at the wrong time (1989-90) when the "hard rock" or "hair bands" was in decline. He could have been better if not for his personal demons.
Warrant as a whole band were very talented.
Uncle Tom's Cabin vocals are insane. RIP.

The MTV full broadcast of the Warrant/Trixter/Firehouse concert at the Cajundome in '91 used to be on YouTube but I could only find Warrant's headline set. IMO, they were a very good band and Jani was a very good front man.

Wish he would have been prouder of Cherry Pie. It’s such a fun song to listen to. The lyrics are hilarious.

I'll always be able to say that JL made an appearance with BB at my very first band gig ever, in my friend's backyard, when I was in high school. (Unfortunately, they were there to see my friend's band.) It was only fitting that the cops busted it up.

One of my biggest concert-going regrets was not seeing them. I went to a show in the summer of 1990. The bill was Warrant, The Black Crowes, Aerosmith, and Metallica. There was a rainstorm so Warrant's performance got cut.

To me Lane wrote some of the best songs during that era.
I saw Red and Uncle Tom's Cabin are masterpieces.
I think about his death often and feel robbed of what could have been.

Interesting did ya know story from my good pal and Carondelet artist Steve Blaze.
He told me recently that years and years ago, mid 1980s, before Lillian Axe got signed to MCA, they were pitching to different labels and getting different degrees of interest. One big label loved Steve's look and his songs (he is LA's principal songwriter) but they had no interest in the rest of his bandmates. They had another band in Hollywood who they wanted the good looking, songwriting singer but not his band.
The proposition to Steve from that label was you and that singer put together a new band with your combined song catalog and we will sign you to a major, major deal IMMEDIATELY.
The singer was Jani Lane, and that label paid for the two of them to spend a three-day weekend together in California to meet, hangout, test each other's personal and professional co-existence chemistry, etc.
Steve said they got along great as simple, kind-hearted people, but they were oil and water in too many other regards. But what ultimately sealed their collective "no deal" response to that prospective label was it was apparent almost immediately each was too used to being chiefs of their tribe, and no tribe is going to truly work with two chiefs. That's paraphrasing Steve's words.
They went their separate ways and eventually got their own deals on their own terms. But as fans of both guys and their respective talents, I gotta, gotta ponder "what if."

Played pool at the Last Stop in Fat City with him and his bandmates in 1990 after they opened for Crue. Got old pics somewhere. Nice down to earth dudes. RIP

That may be true. I remember reading that somewhere (it's been too long) that during the height of his career, he got drugged and then raped by his manager or some record producer. Very disturbing.

I saw his last performance with Warrant in Houston. 2008. Rock the Bayou. Three day event where Astroworld used to be.
He was off. Way off. He was done. You could tell. He was an awesome vocalist and song writer. I had most all their albums at one point. Enjoyed all of them. RIP.
Was a great event though. Warrant, Kix, Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, Queensryche, Slaughter, Dokken, Dangerous Toys, Faster Pussycat, and several more.
The lead singer and drummer of Dangerous Toys had seats. 10 or so rows from the stage where I was sitting. I didn't know who they were until someone asked them for an autograph. I got the singers autograph on a beer cup and $20 dollar bill.
Good times!!!

There's clips on YT, I remember watching some several years ago. It was from that era, sometime between 2007-09.
That was due to heavy drinking before and while performing. I remember seeing after the song was over, the band feeling disappointment or embarrassment to the point of behind the stage arguments. If I find the clip, I'll post it here.
