Anyone hearing anything about their new album coming out this Friday? A Cat in the Rain was definitely a step down compared to other albums they put out before their hiatus. It was good, but it didn’t have a signature song along the lines of 7&7, The Bird Hunters, or Long Hot Summer day.

I loved cat in the rain. In fact the title track is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Also Lucille is straight fire.
I expect more of the same. Maybe with more fiddle this time. Shooter buried it last album.

Cat in the Rain is a great song. You can follow the lyrics explaining when Felker was working at his friend’s ranch in SE Texas, reconnecting with his wife, and finally getting sober. Same with Brought Me and Mean Old Sun. I thought it was a great album and gave a lot of insight to his life during their hiatus.

They’re playing a concert in town this weekend. Opening for cross Canadian ragweed I believe. Lots of hype.

Savingcountrymusic.com says it will be an 11 song studio album. LINK

I like The Rut
Reminds me of going to the mountains, no cell service for a week, and a proper mental reset.
I hope Come November makes the new album. Always liked that song.

You’re right. “Lonesome feels better in motion”

That one and also:

Your bonfire that burned in the back of my mind”

It did, it's titled The Rut.

I'll be up there Saturday. They could have waited a week to announce this, I'm not terribly interested in hearing new stuff at the show.

They are good guys. I've met Evan and other band members quite a few times here in southern Oklahoma. They used to play at a bar in town owned by one of my wife's female friends.

Didn’t they perform at the Varsity in 2015 before they got big? Did anyone happen to go to that concert and how was it?

3. Forgiving You (Evan Felker)
4. Be Here (Evan Felker)
5. Heaven Passing Through (Evan Felker)
6. The Devil Plies His Trade (Sn6 Ep3) (Evan Felker, Kyle Nix)
7. A Lie Agreed Upon (Evan Felker)
8. Ruby Ann (RC Edwards, Lance Roark)
9. What Was Advertised (Evan Felker)
10. Leaving Town (Woody Guthrie Festival) (Evan Felker, Dave Simonett)
11. Nothing You Can Do (Kyle Nix)
Produced by Shooter Jennings (like the last one)
"Expect an album with some slower, songwriter-based tracks in the first half. The album turns much more loud and rowdy in the second half."

They played at the varsity at minimum 3 times before Evan got sober. I was there for all of them and I will say the energy was better with the band before he cleaned up. It doesn’t seem like he’s having fun like he used to.

I would not pay to see them live again except maybe in a large bar setting. And for the record they are one of my top 3 bands ever.

Same. Love the band, but live they are now meh. Shitty sound engineers.

I've mentioned it before, but they just don't jam like they used to. I remember hearing The Bird Hunters at the Varsity around 2015-2016 and it was electric. The fiddle particularly used to go so much harder than it does now. I understand that was nearly a decade ago, but man those concerts with Evan out of his mind were AWESOME, especially in a small venue like The Varsity.
I still roll the windows down and jam TT a lot when I'm feeling good, and hope the new album lives up to all the previous work they've done.
eta: and yes, the sound is horrible. Was bad even when I saw them at Red Rocks a couple years ago and the videos I've watched of them are the same way wherever they play. They need to get that cleaned up and Evan needs to sing the songs they way they are recorded. I feel like he keeps mixing up the cadence of his lyrics and it throws it off for me. idk

Saw them in Little Rock a couple years ago. The Avett Brothers and The Wood Brothers opened, and their sound was perfect. Avetts were singing loud and clear.
Turnpike's sound was then the worst I've heard in decades at a major concert. Very disappointing.
Others said the same online. I thought it was a one time thing, but y'all's comments suggest it is an ongoing issue. I can't imagine such a major band having such consistently shitty sound. How does that happen?
