Extreme Metal.

My grandson is a bassist for a group.

Meshuggah for example.

Yeah wrong genre. Where I draw the line is when you get to where you cannot understand what the singer is saying in a low or high pitched demon voice. Thrash bands actually sing with some growls typically within the song. One typical is when the back up vocals sing the chorus. Bonded by Blood from Exodus is a good example of that.

Also I hate rap after the 90’s. Watered down shite same beats.

There's plenty of shite in this kitchen sink of a genre for sure, but what about the classics?

Swervedriver - "Son of Mustang Ford"

The Stone Roses - "I Wanna Be Adored"

Catherine Wheel - "Crank"

Lush - "Hypocrite"

I don't know what to call it, but I know it when I hear it, and it bores me to death.

Hot take: Electric blues are the original jam bland.....

I still love Tab Benoit, but most blues sounds completely the same.

Not really a hot take. The Allman Brothers embraced this concept 50+ years ago.

Surprised no one has said EDM. That is my vote. Soulless music.

I love blues but am mostly burnt on it. I like jazz that doesn't try too hard. I like metal until the growling starts. When the kids start their EDM, I leave.

Jazz and jam bands, for the same reason - far too much noodling about.

There's a lot of metal I like but none of it is of the "superfast blast beats and growling" variety. I don't understand how you're supposed to tell one song from another.

Rap and hip hop are mixed bags for me. I enjoy artists from both genres that try to push boundaries and be experimental, like Death Grips or Massive Attack or Thundercat. But I loathe the overprocessed mainstream artists that are most of what everyone hears.

I can respect the musical ability, but I just can't stand the screaming and guttural vocals.

Lyrics and vocal talent are a big part of my love for music.

I'm willing to give anything a chance, so what I'm I missing?

Believe it or not, it takes a lot of talent to properly scream. Does't mean you have to like it but don't think that there is no skill involved.

Personally, I don't get country or rap.
