Are you finally willing to admit Gayle Benson is only interested in money?

I have made this statement again and again over the years and have been routinely mocked, insulted, had threads whacked. It's been clear since the very beginning that Gayle is only interested profit maxing the team. That means keeping the team just good enough to not bottom out but never spending enough to be truly competitive.
Other teams in the league with interested owners have risen, fallen, and risen again while the Pelicans have been mired just below mediocrity for over a decade.
So having seen all you've seen now, are you still willing to say Gayle cares about the Pelicans and is invested in seeing them succeed?

I don’t think it’s money as she’s just plain incompetent and over her head. She was never trained for the role and is failing miserably.
Marrying into multibillion cutthroat businesses competing against some of the most ruthless successful business people in the world is no playground for her.
Bringing cupcakes to the office is not enough at this level.

I gotta ask even if Gayle is only interested in money how has she affected Griff failing . Did her being "cheap" make Zion from the first time he played a game for the pels be out of shape, or make BI after he signed that max extension never play up to a All star level again, or Griff's many errors. Can you name a situation where Griff didn't have the financial resources that hurt the team? Griff had the financial resources to sign a guy like Derrick Favors, trade for Steven Adams with a bad contact, to hire Stan VanGundy, sign a Devonta Graham or offer BI a contract extension that would be crippling if he would have expected it .
That was the whole reason she hired Griff to prove that she was serious about the pels. They even hired Trajon as GM who was also a in the running for the POBO job and then hired the sun's trainer who was supposed to be the best in the business.
I'm not the biggest Gayle fan because she trusts Mickey to much, but to place all this blame on here for Griff failing massively is ridiculous.
Like we've lived through a truly cheap owner, we practiced at the fricking alario center for years, traded our second round pick every year for cash, traded Tyson. I would love to have a owner with unlimited funds but the truth is no one like that would buy and keep the team in New Orleans.

You’re a victim of the past where shinn was the worst owner in all of sports and think Gayle is good because she’s better than him when in reality she does the bare minimum compared to the vast majority of owners in the nba.

I don’t think she’s interested in money but more of not knowing what to do. She trusts the wrong people. She is never going to fire Bensel, Loomis or Lauscha.

Look at most owners around the league. It’s a shite show all over. Phoenix, new ownership came in, is fan friendly with free broadcasts of the game, spending on players, and they look like they are going to have to blow it up. Look at the Mavericks’ new ownership that didn’t veto trading the golden goose. We absolutely should be concerned about it getting worse because history says you’re more likely to get a bad owner than a good owner. Good owners are as rare as truly good coaches.
I’m not some Gayle Benson knight by any means, I just think identifying her as a problem is a long way from having a good solution, and ownership is not something that is easy to replace.
Also, to the OP, I don’t think this is about money. Making Griff keep Uncle Al and Dumars keep Willie wasn’t to save a few million, she just didn’t want to fire them for personal/sentimental reasons.

I think she is just not business savvy (actually we know that given her past) and relies on others. She's not overly smart so she really is just an empty figurehead.

The team’s performance has been disappointing, but that doesn’t mean there’s a causal connection with Gayle’s

I’d even give her the benefit of the doubt on church thing. I’d bet she genuinely believes that people are targeting the church for money and a lot of the allegations aren’t genuine. I know several very devout catholic older ladies who legit feel this way. They’re really nice people but have that blind spot.
