Article from CJ in the Players Tribune. The Portland parts are worth reading to see what kind of person he is, but most of you will care most about this:

quote:

I wanted to go to New Orleans. That’s the thing that really takes away the sting. Just purely as a pure hooper, I’m so excited to get to go play with Zion and B.I. and Valanciunas and all those young guys. I really feel like I bring a lot to the table in terms of professionalism and preparation, because in nine years I’ve seen everything in this league. I’ve gotten DNPs, I’ve dropped 50, I’ve been doubted, I’ve been hyped, I’ve been in Game 7s, I’ve hit game winners, I’ve missed game winners. When you’re young in this league, you don’t know what you don’t know — take it from an old head who used to walk around the mall all day. There’s a lot of wisdom I think I can bring to the table in New Orleans and I’m really excited just as a human being to be moving to the city to catch some football games at the Superdome. (My son is still being raised a Browns fan, though, I’m sorry.)

Don't apologize to us CJ, apologize to your son for making him a Browns fan

Also, I assume the "old head who used to walk around the mall all day." was a reference to wasting your time as a youth and not being professional enough. Take Trey under your wing and get his arse out of the dog house please.

For those that just read that quote on here, click on the link and read the entire article. After reading that, man do you get a glimpse of the person who is going to represent Nola. Class act. Love that he’s on our team, but that letter makes it hard as a person to not hurt a little for CJ and Dame that they didn’t get their shot together in the Finals. What a guy, what a teammate, and what an example of a professional and person!

Was listening to a Ringer podcast this morning with them talking about how miserable Mccollum must have been when he heard he was going to New Orleans.

Im sure they'll start their next pod with this clarification.

Great read. CJ seems like a good dude. I’m excited to have him on our team.

After seeing all the James Harden/Ben Simmons drama before/during/after that trade, it’s just so refreshing to not have to deal with any of that. Sometimes you get tired of all the soap opera stuff that can come with the league. Josh and Nickeil coming to the game was awesome. CJ being involved in this trade, wanting to be here, and leaving Portland on good terms is awesome. It was great that this deal just got done, without all the leaking to Woj and Chams. It’s just cool that everyone involved in this trade seems like they handled it maturely.

Wow… what a great read. Thanks for sharing.

We know he’s a good player but seems Griff was right (and let’s praise him where it’s due)… he’s a good human, he’s exactly the kind of person we NEED around our young guys…he went and got him.

I care nothing for Portland, Dame, Nurk etc but reading through CJ’s tales does make me smile about his experience…and how he is with his teammates and relationship with his community.

Could this be our turning point? I really hope it pays off…

Another article from 208 that adds some insight into CJ.

quote:

Social media was its usual self on Wednesday, blowing up after a video surfaced of Trail Blazers shooting guard CJ McCollum talking about superteams on China Central Television (CCTV). Asked about his thoughts on players like Kevin Durant and DeMarcus Cousins joining the Warriors to chase rings, McCollum said "I would never do anything of that nature. I think it's disgusting. I'm not built like those guys, I was raised differently.

It’s a delightful feeling knowing that players around the league are taking notice of what’s brewing in New Orleans.

I maintain that I thought we had a decent off-season but admittedly hearing players weren’t trying to take our money felt bad. Like we have BI and Zion, how you not trying to get down? Do you watch basketball wtf?!

If you get traded to a team and did nit demand a trade , I don't think that counts as joining a super team.

He targeted New Orleans after he knew of his impending trade. New Orleans wanted him back. So what point are you making here?

New Orleans was allowed permission to speak with CJ before his trade. Whether we’re a super team is indifferent to that fact that CJ chose join this team.

First, I wasn't actually taking a dig at CJ, I was taking the opportunity to say the Pels have a Superteam.

Second, when Zion returns from fat camp, CJ will have joined a Superteam, whether he intended to or not. The league better hope Zion found the donut stand on the Nike campus or they're in trouble.
