I'm not taking anything from a 15 minute q and a.

I'm only interested in who we draft and how fat Zion looks at the presser before the season starts. And FA of course

Everything else is lip service.

With how quickly he was hired it would make sense that there is not a plan that has formed. Rather they trust him to form one on the job, with a rough outline that he was given.

as long as he sets a standard and doesn't deviate from it, something he learned from he's dealings with other teams at his time in the league office in new york on the 20th floor

Press conferences are meaningless. Let’s see what he does

I'm seeing some fairly positive comments on twitter, so in that sense it may be a win for him and the team

I just watched the replay. I like him. Maybe it's from respecting him as a player. But he seemed like a straight shooter. He didn't let anyone pin him down. Green is definitely staying at least another season. It sounds like they know each other very well and are friends (Green is from Detroit and probably followed Dumars growing up), so he'll get a shot. So people need to let that go or just be prepared to be unhappy.

I don't know about the rest of the team. I think they make some moves, but I have a bad feeling that Zion will be back. It's not going to end well though. He said in the press conference that we are going to set a standard and follow it. So players are going to be held accountable. I don't think that will work for a lot of players. It has the potential to go sideways quick..

Dumars has a great resume

If by great you mean inheriting a Ferrari and leaving a Yugo I guess you are correct.

I grew up a Detroit Pistons fan in the 80s. The Bad Boys were everything to me back then. Joe Dumars is a hero to me.

In the early 2000s, Joe put together a TEAM with no superstars that reached the ECF six times in a row. That is a massive accomplishment. The man understands basketball. Has the game passed him by? Maybe! Has he kept his pulse on team-building from his job at the NBA? Maybe! Did he draft Darko over Carmello/Bosh/Wade? Yes! Terrible decision, but I remember being a fan back then and Darko was considered a top prospect. Nobody at the time was screaming about the pick.

I would love it if we traded Zion. I would love it if we fired Willie. Hopefully, we'll get some ping pong ball luck and we'll just see how it goes.

a TEAM with no superstars

By team of no superstars, you mean 4 all stars including a hall of famer? I don't get this "no superstars" narrative.

they were all stars because they were the best team. if you ranked each position by top 25 of all time, none of those players would be mentioned. Thats what he means no superstar

I’m just praying Dumars is saying “fine Gayle” but privately he knows he’s got Borrego waiting in the wings to coach after Little Monty flops again to start the year.

Rip Hamilton did not make an All-Star Team before he was acquired by Joe Dumars in 2002. He was a 3 time All-Star in 2006, 2007 & 2008.

Chauncey Billups was considered a bust when Joe Dumars acquired him in 2002. He was a 5 time All-Star in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010.

Ben Wallace went undrafted. Joe Dumars acquired him in 2000, after Ben's breakout season when he averaged a whopping 8 points. He was a 4 time All-Star in 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006.

Rasheed Wallace was an All-Star before he was acquired by Joe Dumars in 2004. He hadn't been an All-Star since 2001. He was later an All-Star with the Pistons in 2006 & 2008.

None of these guys were SUPERSTARS. None of them logged MVP votes. Only Ben Wallace logged multiple All-NBA teams and we can all agree he was no "Superstar."

Most of them were castoffs of other teams.

There's also the possibility that Joe could end up being hands on in setting direction with the coaching. Griff wanted to build a sustainable winner, but if you look at his words and actions, his true aim was to build a family of human beings. And he kind of did a good job of that.

I've only seen a few clips of the presser, but if Dumars holds to what he said: doing things the right way win or lose, having high standards, and getting rid of those that don't fit, maybe some of the same pieces, including Willie, perform differently in a different culture.

That’s almost fair, except I’ve seen nothing from an X’s and O’s or game management perspective that would leave me with any faith in Little Monty. He gets outcoached and outadjusted regularly. How is Dumars supposed to fix him being in way over his head? You can almost see the game moving too fast for him on the sidelines.

By telling him to let his OC run the offense like he was brought in to do? The few times Borrego got to coach the team they looked different. I think BI coincidentally might have been out too, still the difference was notable.
