One of the reasons I've checked out so bigly is that the ratio of disappointing seasons to satisfactory / fun seasons has got to be somewhere around 8 to 1 in favour of bad.

The best moments we've had since the return (in my opinion) are:

1. Beating Dallas and making noise in 2006 playoffs
2. Sweeping Portland and giving GSW a scare in the mid 2010's
3. Winning lottery - Zion
4. Winning lottery - AD23
5. Landing CP3 and getting team back after Katrina
6. Early days / promising development of David West

Three of the top six moments aren't even on the court. The disappointments are far too many to list, but they'd exceed 25 or even 35.

It's got to be one of the worst stretches of a major league sports franchise in history.

I also hate that we took one of the most unique and recognizable sports brands and imagery (the Hornets) and gave it away for nothing, replacing it with some of the least imaginative and stupid logos, colours, and team name in history.

You and everyone else man. We all know the other shoe is going to drop.

Happened late this year: blew the 4 seed and Zion got hurt. Season over.

The toughest thing to me is it's not like we're the Timberwolves or the Kings who haven't even had any star players until recently. We've had

CP3 (top 50 player of all time)
AD23 (top 20 player of all time)
Zion (potential top 20 player of all time)

In their primes.

On rookie contracts.

And we still have done frick all in the playoffs. Our outlook isn't particularly bright either.

7. Chris Paul putting up a triple double against the lakers to tie up a hopeless series at 2-2 in 2011. This game film should be sent to the national archives and labeled how to play point guard. Paul went 27, 15, 13 and looked liked a midget against a giant laker team with Gasol, Bynum, Odom, Artest, Bryant.

Paul’s other starters that night wer Trevor Ariza, Carl Landry, Emeka Okafur and Marco Belinelli.

I don’t think I’ve ever walked out of an arena more impressed by an athlete than I was by Chris Paul after that game.

It was perfection.

Paul played with a lot of heart while he was here.

Do you remember the reason why it was blocked?

Shady ownership deal. Top Rank Boxing and Bob Arum. Edwin Edwards orchestrated it and was behind it. The financing was suspect and Stern knew Edwards, Arum top rank etc were corrupt. Very few times in modern era a sale was outright blocked tells you how shady and suspect the whole thing was.

We lost in 5 to GSW, it wasnt very competitive lol, i get your point though. I believe AD recently came out and said we would have won it all that year if boogie didnt go down before the playoffs. We were one of the hottest teams in the league but i dont think we were on the warriors level even with boogie.

That 07-08 year was so awesome. David West punked Dirk that first playoff series the entire series. We had a prime spurs team down 3-2 and dead to rights. 17 year old me was so upset when we blew it. If i remember correctly Popovich let CP3 get his, and decided to focus on stopping Peja's perimeter shooting instead and it worked the last 2 games.

I'll add 2 more:

1. Beating the spurs in last game of the season in 14-15 to sneak in the playoffs as the 8 seed. We got swept by the warriors but it was the first time we'd made the playoffs in the post chris paul era and the future seemed bright with AD. Watched that game at pluckers with some buddies and we were pumped. There was rumors Pop let us win because him and monty were friends and they had alreaady locked up their seed but whatever.

2. The suns series 2 years ago. Pels get hot and improbably snag the 8 seed after 2 play in wins. Willie had the famous speech in the clippers come back. We get a 60 win suns team without zion and absolutely show that we belong. BI balls out and the media is crowning him as the next superstar, zion wants to sign an extension, and we push the 1 seed to 6 games. I went to the game 4 win to tie it at 2-2 and its one of the best sporting events ive ever been to, i legit believed we could take the series. Fast forward 2 years later and we've done nothing but regress with the same team. How fricking depressing

Accurate list.

2011 Chris Paul in God Mode. Game 4 was incredible. Didn’t get a call in Game 5 in LA.

2014-2015 had a couple late wins to make playoffs. Beat GSW when Curry missed a shot at buzzer. The win against Spurs.

Always joke January 2023. Zion had his 40+ point game during an epic comeback. Number 1 seed.

Zion is closer to a bust than a generational top 20 player of all time.

We got G-swept against GSW…

But yeah we’ve had the history you’d expect for a small market that doesn’t want to pay Luxury Tax and only shows up after football is over…
