Why do people always complain about money not being spent?

I check our salary cap situation decently to understand our moves. The Pels are consistently upper half of the league in salary. They are 12th right now.

I am not going to hate on money spent on the arena as I honestly think teams spending the money on the arenas are dumb. It just dramatically increases ticket cost and it really doesn’t enhance the actual basketball. I am going to see a game and not go to the club. Also it doesn’t matter when I am at home.

Someone needs to prove she is not actually spending money because I actually think her cheapness may be false.

It’s been discussed . Please read this article
https://intheno.substack.com/p/pelicans-problem-isnt-joe-dumars?utm_medium=web

quote:

It's not like other small markets haven’t seen success. Players, executives, coaches, agents, and family members universally rave about the Oklahoma City Thunder organization – the team with the best record in the league. Sources describe the Thunder as sporting the largest staff payroll in the league, both in quantity and salary per person. Their analytics department alone draws comparisons to major league baseball teams. Moreover, the Thunder go above and beyond to take care of their staff members, players, and anyone associated with the org. Families get access to top of the line concierge medical services. Even player agents get their hotels paid for visits during the playoffs if their client is on the team. The Thunder make everyone feel incredibly valued.

quote:

Rival executives believe the Pelicans are merely waiting out the NBA’s upcoming expansion, which will net them a $300M+ windfall. Multiple league sources inform me that the Pelicans have turned away serious buyers and investors,

quote:

The Thunder’s success proves that small-market teams can thrive — with investment, patience, and vision. There is a world where Dumars and his wealth of experience can help execute these things. But until Pelicans ownership either sells to someone who cares or has a sudden epiphany about spending, this franchise will remain stuck in the same cycle: sprinting on a treadmill, chasing mediocrity instead of greatness. Their hiring of Joe Dumars wasn’t a bold move — it was a default setting. No search, no fresh ideas, just a familiar face handed the keys to a decaying operation. And now, Dumars steps into a near-impossible situation: financial constraints, organizational handcuffs, and zero room to modernize. He wasn’t brought in to build a contender. He was hired to babysit a franchise whose owners treat as a passive investment rather than a championship pursuit.

50 positions were slashed last month. Few will be replaced but it has been reported it is financial cutbacks.

Gayle doesn’t need money. She said when she’s dead, it will go back to the community. She even said she’s willing to go into the luxury tax

LINK

They’re also building a new medical complex next to the training facility

LINK

Upgraded the super dome and cafeteria. Putting more money to upgrading the facilities. Also planning to upgrade the pelicans arena

Go be a thunder fan then you miserable frick

Got your extra 2000 seats in SKC yet? Lease extension? Just thought I would ask?

Probably not a good idea to ask him for anything right now.

Look, I hate Gayle and everyone associated with the Pelicans, but it seems every time we were close to going into the luxury tax, Pels shite happened to us. We would have done it if Boogie doesn't blow his Achilles and do it if Zion wasn't a worthless fat piece of shite.

This team would not be here if not for Gayle Benson. She planted the seed in her husband's mind when the league took over from George Shinn and has been faithful to the city with regards to the Hornets/Pelicans (and the Saints for that matter) ever since (even as the city has undergone severe demographic change post Katrina).

Somehow, some airheads find fault with her charitable giving to the Catholic Church and paint her as a villain in some of the highly publicized church scandals as if she is guilty of some kind of heinous crime. Others seem to question her connection to the Ochsner Foundation and the money she has donated to it. It's gotten so bad that it's become 'the thing to do" to trash Mrs. Benson at every turn.

The easiest thing in the world for a 79-year-old widow to do would be to 'cash out' and let the teams end up wherever they go. But, this woman continues to be faithful to the city she loves (despite the mindless criticisms) and is determined to see her beloved Pelicans (and Saints) stay in New Orleans.

DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!!

Sidenote: Have at me. If a highly visible New Orleans Icon can take all the BS tossed at her, certainly an unknown keyboard warrior can too.

I would love to be a fly on the wall when she asks Governor Jeff Landry for SKC renovations or a new arena for the Pelicans. After all a billionaire can’t pay for it all.

OFFENSE, OFFENSE, OFFFENSE!!!!!

imagine whining about a billionaire business person not paying for a 500 million renovation of a building said business person does not own.

Certainly won’t hurt my feelings if she wants to sell.

After getting $300m in state renovation money, Saints owner balking at paying her share

quote:

The state of Louisiana is putting up $300 million of the cost, which leaves Saints owner Gayle Benson to pay the other $200 million, something it turns out she hasn’t been doing:
