I mean...He has a long long history in NBA FO's as an exec. He was with OKC for a long long time under Presti right?

People are going to say he did a shite job with the Pistons, and maybe he did. But he did bring in a lot of the players that the Pistons are using now (Langdon made great moves for Schroeder, Harris,Beasley though)

This board is full of dreamers that compare every move the Pels make to the perfect moves they had in mind. As if those were ever on the table.

I don't see this as the Pels hired someone that isn't the cream of the crop. I see this as a sign that Dumars will be in a more senior advisor capacity, which most on the board should like considering their opinion of Dumars. The title is also important as it seems like Bryson would have the same job and should stay.

building a front office before actually worrying about the head coach of the future. i agree with this plan of action. don't know nuffin about weaver but this is what we want, build an arsenal of front office minds underneath the big guy dumars.

Yeah the title is certainly interesting.

it makes Dumars more of like...I don't know the "Owner" if you will, kind of the czar of basketball, with Weaver more in a Griffin role (but with less power), and Graham maybe staying where he is?

Really interesting. Could be too many cooks in the kitchen. I don't know.

It certainly makes for some good discussion.

One thing I will give Weaver he has a LOT of history with teams tanking

He drafted well. Ivey, Duren, Stewart, Ausar plus some other guys. Not gonna count Cade since he was a no brainer #1 pick.

However, he built a pretty terrible roster when it was clear the team needed shooting for years.

Also hired Monty Williams and gave him an enormous contract on for him to be god awful and got fired after one year

Langdon came in, got Beasley, Hardaway, Tobias Harris and they become the 6th seed

jesus bunchie.

you spin everything into a negative.

this is exactly a scenario where you thought dumars made the most sense for the organization.

people bagged on the pelicans for gayle not investing into a big enough front office. now, within 1 hire, there's too many cooks in the kitchen.

Chad. I saw this with all due respect but frick off.

My comments on this have been mostly positive. We have discussions on here, it is a message board.

Having a new power structure with now 3 guys instead of two is interesting.

Go do something else, discussions aren't for you obviously

That was 100% an ownership decision. The owners of the Pistons just threw crazy money at Monty until he relented.

Yeah I don't think Troy Weaver was like "I must have Monty Williams and I will pay him whatever it takes!"

Not sure he can be pinned on that, but he had the job for awhile and they just kept sucking

He drafted pretty decently though

"This is an interesting title. Weaver did some good things in Detroit and has a long history with the best exec in the business. I wonder if that many voices is too many cooks in the kitchen"

is "negative drama"?

Grow up dude.

Yes. You didn’t want Dumars to be the end all be all nuts and bolts guy. He’s building up a front office staff that has experience and youth with graham. And yet you still choose to spin it as a possible negative.

Don’t tell me to grow up, it’s been the rest of the board behaving like petulant children.

I think this effectively pushes Graham's role down the heirarchy as a decision maker towards more an assistant GM role.

Yes between him and Graham I feel pretty good about the draft.

That is certainly a good thing, both have a better history in the draft than Dumars does.
