Why the hate for Jaxson Hayes?

He isn’t a finished product. People must not being seing his free throw percentage (74%). This guy can be great once he gets some lower body muscle. His jumper at pro days looks good for a guy who hasn’t played much basketball.

Because it's not Bol Bol who everyone hyped up

well he's a project, for starters. this means that you can be as positive or negative as you want with him
the bigger issue is our team being linked to Myles Turner, who is a finished version of Hayes with a 3 point shot Hayes likely never develops. Hayes is going to be living in that shadow for years

He fills out physically and hones his game. Could be a premier monster center in this league...

When you get past the first couple guys, everybody and their brother finds a favorite prospect and they are all different. And then they throw a fit when their guy isn’t picked. Happens every year, in every sport.
Eagles fans boo’d Donovan McNabb. Knicks fans boo’d the unicorn. You would think they would learn their lesson, but they never do.

Bol Bol seemed to me to be intensely fragile both mentally and physically. Just my impression.
Hayes has his potential, Im hoping he develops a mid range game at least. Not sure if Texas' system just didnt require him to need one or what, but he literally never took a jump shot. Concerning, but he has only been really playing bball for like 2-3 years so hopefully the sky is the limit

wut?
who hyped Bol up? if anything, the past couple of days have been terrible for Bol, as it began to come out that his medicals were worse than originally thought, to go along with bad reviews of his demeanor/personality...
the only people who would be hyping this dude are very casual fans who really don't know anything at all about basketball...

Not really hate but guys like him aren’t as valuable in today’s NBA. Plus he isn’t a spacer so he isn’t the best fit NOW for this squad.
If Z and to a lesser extent Ingram really develop an outside shot than he becomes much more valuable IMO. This pick was made thinking ahead a few yrs.

Well if his free throw percentage is any indication he will develop a consistent jumper so a slightly more athletic Myles Turner

Its a same this kid is drawing so much hate, i don't understand it, why not let him play a season of or two before declaring him a wasted pick or bust. One thing to keep in mind when building a roster, not every player will be an all star, you need solid starters that will give you solid minutes.

They had him as the #1 Center and #11th overall player in the draft last night. Picking him at 8 is not bad if you needed a big man. Which we did.

People wanted the flash. But I like it. Huge guy who shoots FTS well. Helps limit Zions pure C minutes. I have a feeling we go get a vet C and rotate him/Jah in.

That's exactly who in talking about..
It's the casual fans who have no idea, they just look at stats and hyped themselves up on Bol, and get disappointed when we dont take him

Good thing about Zion, is he's skilled enough to play SF also.
So against good sized teams we could have Zion, Jah, and Jax on court at same time

I think the hate comes from a high bust probability. It was a bit of a reach to take him at 10, he only averaged 10/5 at Texas, has no jump shot, no 3 point range. He's basically a defensive guy all the way right now. His entire offensive game pretty much came off alley oops and dunks at Texas.
Generally speaking you'd like to see someone a little more skilled there than him. Who knows what 3-4 years down the road holds, but personally I dont like picks like this either. I hope it works out. Drafting is such a crapshoot of a process.

Most here don’t know shite. Ignore them and hopefully they will go away.

I don’t see what stops him from becoming a serge Ibaka type player, which would be great with Zion. Mid 70s free throw shooting is a good indicator that he can develop an outside shot, especially being so young and new to basketball

Fans want someone who is going to be a dominant force right now. Like you said, he isn't a finished product and will take time to develop.

Right we got the 2 best finishers in the draft. Can’t wait to see a Hayes Zion pick and roll

My summary of thoughts:
Hayes is going to be fine I think, and remain, at worst, a neutral asset throughout his rookie deal, so he gets at least a passing grade. But what Hayes projects to be is easily found in free agent markets today. As positional value of offensively limited defensive centers is at an all time low and doesn’t look to be trending up any time soon. And while it’s possible he may develop a jumper, that’s a tall ask for a guy that essentially made zero in college. We hoped for the same with Diallo, and I would argue if a shooting big is your development goal, Wood is a more realistic prospect to be there and we already have him.
I also don’t really see the long term fit with Zion who barring a leap in his jump shot is going to need shooters around him like Giannis. And will likely play major minutes at center in small ball lineups.
So in that context, what we gave up to move down to get him was not worth it imo. You can never have enough wings in this league and when the opportunity cost is that and a potential all-star guard, you need to be sure that it is worth trading that upside for more quantity and I don’t think this move justified that. And as a rebuilding team without any realistic shot at a deserving max player, you don’t settle for less to move expiring contracts. I’m rooting for him, but my expectations and ceiling for him with this core is lower than I think other guys available at 4 could of provided.
