Interesting piece here. Since the saints cut down his salary down to 1.25 mill this year the saints could trade him post 6/1, the dead money is already accounted for in 2026, a team would take on Carr at basically a vet minimum to be their guy and would make him more valuable. Guys like Geno Smith getting a 3rd rounder and taking on his larger salary I’d think Carr would get more.

that pick's value would need to be something that matters.

moore i wouldn't think wants to start off his coaching career with a qb that isn't ready to win or lead.

Nothing would surprise me at this point.

However, I don't think Carr will be playing anywhere except NOLA in 2025.

At least it keeps our options open if new staff likes what they see in Rattler and / or if the great Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart fall into our laps with the 9th or 40th pick.

Could be, sure he could be. Will he be, I seriously doubt it. As they point out in the article, he has to waive his no trade clause. Only way I see that happening is if it's for a team he feels is a QB away from contending, and the haul would have to be low enough that it would not harm his future team. Remember, he refused to be traded by the Raiders because he didn't want them getting picks and wanted to be released; and this was after he already lost his starting job.

If traded on 6/2/26 it would save another $1.2M against this year's cap and lock in his dead money for 2026 at just under $60M.

But, if they play him this year, they could cut him next offseason and designate him a post 6/01 cut. That way his cap hit for 2025 stays at $20.5M, and his dead money for 2026 will be just under $60M at the league new year; but will drop to $19.2M on 6/02/26 and push $40.5M to 2027. I think this is the more likely scenario; unless there are some guarantees worked into the contract that overthecap & spotrac do not have listed

If we drafted Sanders and Carr was looking in the face of DNP all season, I think he's too competitive to refuse to waive his no trade clause. It would also hurt his future earning potential to do that. The Raiders were his first team and that all went down in Week 14 / Week 15 of a season. Tons of hurt feelings and bitterness after he was the face of that franchise in both Oakland and Las Vegas.

He's never really been "the guy" here (there hasn't even been a Carr jersey made available to fans, which is unfathomable for a starting QB) and he's not a fit for New Orleans culturally. His two highest profile WR's have publicly bashed him on multiple occasions. This would be a completely different animal and I bet he'd waive it.

You can absolutely buy a Carr jersey.

This is my current expectation for how he's handled, unless Moore turns him into a top QB this year. He'll get cut with the post 6/1 designation next year and they'll wait to sign their high cost rookie contracts from the '26 draft until June '2, and then roll the rest of the space to '27

The key takeaway is $60 M in 2026 dead cap regardless of what we do with Carr because of the extension.

Moore has made a huge mistake coming here. It’s going to take back to back 2017 type drafts to have a chance of being competitive.

Well if in fact Carr asked if he could look elseware tells me he doesn`t
want to be here.If I`m KM do I want the face of my team not 100% in.Human
nature doesn`t allow people to be at their best if they are not happy where
their at.If he stays it could get ugly fast next season.

The patriots are maybe stupid enough. They’ve got tons of space and they love bum white quarterbacks

So they’re just going to ignore their first round draft pick going into his second year who showed a lot of promise for an aging Derek Carr?

I mean maybe to hedge their bets if they think they will be contenders in the next 2-3 seasons. I prefaced by saying they’d have to be stupid to do it

Umm, the Saints Pro Shop begs to differ:
Men's Nike Derek Carr Black New Orleans Saints Vapor F.U.S.E. Limited Jersey
Men's Nike Derek Carr Black New Orleans Saints Game Jersey

And there are 2 more Men's jerseys and 1 Women's jersey available. Derek Carr might not be the most respected or liked QB this city has ever had, but Fanatics loves money enough that they would certainly have a jersey available by now.

Only other teams needing bridge QB’s are Giants, Browns, and Steelers. Maybe Minny if they don’t think McCarthy is ready yet.

Saints will hold onto Carr though. I expect QB to be drafted in 2026.
