No. And you will be hard pressed to find a Saints fan that says he is.

Picking Penix is surely questionable today given the Cousins signing and other player’s available who seemingly make you better in 2024.

But if (and that’s a big IF to me because I don’t expect Penix to be a great NFL QB) Penix turns out to be a star it’ll look like a brilliant pick down the road. Maybe he becomes your starter in 2 years under a rookie deal and Cousins backs him up? Rodgers sat 3 years behind Favre, and GB sure looks smart grabbing Rodgers with a hall of fame QB still playing well. Of course the risk at a pick in the 20s is more acceptable I guess.

That’s the beauty of the draft, you can end up with Tom Brady in round 6 or Jamarcus Russell at 1.1.

As a Saints fan I hope Penix is terrible. Although I wish the guy health and happiness he’s a Falcon now.

We made a solid pick tonight but sadly our front office isn’t much better

You had me shaking my head yes until you decided to throw shite on our team too while you were at it. Couldn't leave good enough alone.

You can't say that on this board.

The dude has great size and speed. I was hoping the saints would draft him.

I’m a big Penix fan so I don’t think the falcons made a terrible pick.

After watching the title game against a real defense, not a PAC-12 defense, Penix looked dime-a-dozen mediocre, to me. Pressured & inaccurate.

But let's say he does turn into a top 10 NFL starter one day, and between Cousins & Penix, the Falcons are set for the next 10 years at QB. Fine.

The Falcons still would be wasting Penix's valuable window of having a roster-friendly cheap rookie contract years after Cousin eats up 3-to-4 of those years, just about the time teams start 2nd contract talks with franchise rookie QBs. Just seems dumb, to me.

You can’t judge a decision on the outcome that’s 20/20 hindsight. No matter how Penix turns out it was an awful decision to draft him that high AFTER signing Cousins to over $100M guaranteed. It’s not at all like Favre/ARod, for 1 they already had Favre they didn’t just go out to get him and 2 Rodgers was a possibility to go 1-1 but slide in the drafter after SF went with Smith.

The Saints are why they did it. We hover around .500 and never get a top pick or top qb. Atlanta thinks at minimum Cousins will do the same the next 3 years. Thus no high pics for qbs either. If you think Penix is a stud and don't mind him sitting then its not a completely unreasonable move. Maybe no one else would do it but it's true wisdom is not yet known.

Drafting a guy like Penix in the 1st is not a problem it’s just the falcons put themselves in a no win situation not matter the outcome. If cousins give them 3-4 great years they just wasted a top 10 pick that’s could’ve helped them immediately, if Penix is actually a hit, they just ruined their 4 year window of the best deal in sports of building a team on rookie QB deal because of the cousins contract.

Penix on a rookie deal means absolutely nothing now considering your paying cousins 100 million guaranteed. They’ve totally blown that window, they can’t make a Tyreek Hill/ Christian Mcafferey/Trent Williams type of trade with QB’s still on rookie deals.

This may make sense if Cousins was signed last year by the previous GM. But the current “brain” trust are the ones the just signed Cousins 6-7 weeks ago. To then turn around and draft a QB in the top shows no vision at all. As a Saints fan I love it. Even if Penix turns out to be good I’m not worried because if this is their process they won’t have a team around him
