Hypothetically would've been on the Saints 2006-2015

Reggie might not have had the career we wanted, but he was a nice weapon that Payton used effectively.
I’d say the Saints never play Chicago in 2006 without ReggieB.

Pierre Thomas still exists, but you wonder how elite the defense would have been

Williams was a dog

What changes if you draft him instead of Bush? Perhaps Payton takes MJD in the 2nd over that year Roman Harper

Mario Williams was drafted #1, Saints couldn’t have drafted him.

You just have to assume Reggie was drafted first in this scenario

Agreed. I always remember the TD catch against the Vikings in the NFC Championship game. It was 3rd and Goal from around the 5 yard line. Bush catches a pass and twists around to get in the pylon (I think it was a challenge that resulted in it being called a TD). There aren't a lot of RBs that would make that play. He doesn't get in, we kick a FG and probably end up losing that game and never making it to the SB.

Saints never win a SB with Mario. I still believe Texans were told to draft Mario over Reggie so we could have him.

Benson wants to move Saints and was told no.

Once in a lifetime type player falls in our laps due Texans drafting him. Texans GM retires after draft

We go to the NFCCG in 2006
Win SB in 2009

None of this is coincidence.

Reggie was exactly what the team and city needed at the time.

I think AJ Hawk was who they were going to take when they thought Houston was taking Reggie

A RB who never broke 1k rushing yards and reached 6 rushing TDs once in his 5 years with us? I mean, he broke 1k total yards his rookie year, and then never again.

I love Reggie like most Saints fans do, and we never have the "Bring the Wood" game without him but let's not rewrite history and act like he was some perennial hall of famer while here. Dude had a VERY mediocre career, and his most well-known play by non-Saints fans is him getting smoked by Sheldon Brown on that hospital ball Drew threw his rookie season.

I’m not just talking about on the field. Do you remember the excitement in the city the day they drafted him? I believe that is the day the 2006 season tickets sold out if I remember correctly.

This post is dumb.

Reggie was not a generational talent. We only thought he was because of USC’s great offense that he played in in college against a lot of weak defenses. He was just another RB in the NFL. Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles were both better in the NFL.

The NFL didn’t script Reggie into coming to the Saints only for him to then be scripted into being a middle of the road player. The Texans picked Mario because they thought he would be the more valuable NFL player.

Exactly. He wasn’t that good. Deuce McCallister, Pierre Thomas, and Darren Sproles were all better.

BS. I'm not talking about hindsight.

Before the draft he was the next Gayle Sayers. No organization in their right mind would pass on him. Funny how Texans GM Charlie Casserly stepped down immediately after the draft. If that's not some head scratching shite I don't know what is.

Without Reggie, the Saints offense is nowhere near what it would have been. He opened up the passing game. Forget his production. It's irrelevant.

We draft Mario Williams and this team never wins a SB.
