He’s Underhill’s pick at 9 and he noted there’s much more debate in the league than in the media about who is OT2 between he and Kelvin Banks.

And then this from Tony Pauline:
quote:

Josh Conerly Jr. of Oregon could end up being chosen earlier than most predict, and the expected range for the junior is picks 10 to 25. And while the 10th pick, presently held by the Chicago Bears, seems early, I’m told it is a real possibility.

There’s quotes by Nate Tice and Todd McShay about Conerly “rising” too. Multiple quotes from Kellen about importance of OL, declining Pennings 5th year option, and so on.

He also took a top 30 visit to the Saints.

FWIW, Conerly absolutely dominated Abdul Carter. 0 Sacks, 0 Pressures

So hypothetically if he is the pick this is to replace Penning.... do the Saints try Penning at Guard? And would they keep Fuaga at LT or move him to RT?

So what would the OL shuffle be year 1?

If Penning doesn't play into your future plans, you pick a guy like Conerly, move Fuaga back to RT and who gives a shite what you do with Penning. He can be the swing tackle if this staff doesn't believe in him. Or, you could easily trade him.

It’ll be interesting if membou is there at 9 given the fact that KM’s brother is OC at mizzou. It would say something if we passed on him

Conerly is a better fit at LT. Fuaga would probably shift to RT (where he was originally projected anyway), and hopefully Penning would compete at LG.

I’m not sure Conerly is a day 1 starter. I read a bunch of scouting reports last night and there’s a consensus critique about his play strength. Which makes sense, he’s only 21 and his birthday is in November.

Sounds good. Nothing wrong going oline

Unless it’s Caesar Ruiz. That was just an awful pick

That is what I was thinking. I wonder if Penning could play guard. I'd try him at both guard positions.

The best thing to do is just pretend Penning doesn’t exist. The penning truthers got a little of their dose when his option wasn’t picked up, now they’ll get the rest when we draft his replacement. He will get tried at guard whether it’s with us this year or on his next team.

A lot of chatter that Membou has “does he love football” concerns. Obviously kellen will know better than anyone.

his comp to me is Terron Armstead. Conerly can easily be the top tackle from this class.

Put Penning at G. He played okay last year, maybe we can bring him back on a favorable contract. Id like us to go back to having a great O line, feels like its been awhile.

I’m curious how much of this news coming out over the last couple weeks is smokescreen. The consensus rankings of the OT’s have been fairly consistent up until a couple weeks ago.

For sure he can. What makes him interesting to me is that he’s only 21, but has a ton of experience. Played in all 13 games as a freshman, started 28/28 games as a soph and junior.

Played his best against the best, checks all the boxes physically, isn’t a “project” but has a lot of room for growth. I’d be perfectly content if he’s the pick.

He was solid last year. His option wasn’t picked up b/c he’s not worth the amount. If he improves more, no reason we shouldn’t try to re-sign him.

Makes zero sense to try to fill a hole that may not exist with the talent deficiencies that are clear in other areas of the team.

I thought so too.

But if you put any stock in PFF grades, he was not solid, he was very below average

I listened to a pod lately in which they said the Saints concern with Membu is that he’s lazy. Ultra talented but afraid he will not put in the work after he’s paid. Similar to what your hearing.
