I know speculation is everywhere today and everyone has sources but I thought this was interesting.
He said Daboll (Giants HC) loves Dart. He said they are talking w Minnesota about trading back into the first at their pick (early 20’s) for Dart. Minnesota doesn’t have a lot of picks and so this is appealing to them.
I really hope something like this happens so that the Saints do not trade back into the first.
Let the draft come to you!!!!

Really would be an ideal time to go against the grain and call up Sean, trade back from 9 to 20 and draft Dart if you want him. Could easily get Pick 20 and Pick 48 or Pick 20 and next year's 1st.

Mahomes - traded up for
Josh Allen - traded up for
Lamar - traded up for
Jordan Love - traded up for
Watson - traded up for

You either have a top pick or you go get your guy. There is no waiting around.

Fair point….but only when the guy you’re trading up for is seen as worth trading up for. Everyone of those guys were well thought of by many in the draft community.
Most people I hear say Dart would be 3rd round in a normal draft

KC was a 12 win playoff team that had hit a ceiling with avg QB

quote:

Josh Allen - traded up for

Made playoffs with Tyrod Taylor the year before taking Allen, also had an extra 1st due to trading back with KC the year before

quote:

Lamar - traded up for

Playoff team the year before, took Jackson at 32, did not give up a first round pick.

quote:

Jordan Love - traded up for

Playoff team (notice a trend yet) moved up 4 spots giving up pick 30 and 136

quote:

Watson - traded up for

Made playoffs with Brock Osweiler the year before taking Watson

None of these examples apply to the current Saints who have shitty and old roster. Build the lines “trade up” if you have to in a year or 2 after you build a better roster hopefully and it’s a better QB class.

I would try and get from Sean 48 & 52 plus next years second for our 9th pick in first round.

I wonder if Giants would give us Neighbors their early second.and maybe another pick in this draft for pick 9?

That's just not something Loomis does.

WAY more likely we pick someone at 9 and then throw a 2nd/3rd/something next year to move up to get a QB late 1st

That would be great. We need to save ALL our picks! Jumping back in the 1st round for a QB that isn't elite is dumb. Run with Rattler (we will suck) and get our QB next year. We are no where near being a playoff team anyway. We need to blow it up. Should've traded Kamara for picks.

Mahomes' ratings were all over the board. He was not a sure fire top half of the first guy. Some did not have him as a 1st rounder.

Their situations are completely irrelevant, the point is that teams were rewarded for being aggressive and going after a quarterback. If we trade up to pick a QB that ends up being the caliber of any of those guys then nobody is going to care that we missed the playoffs last year. Good QBs cover up holes on the team not the other way around.

It cuts both ways….

No it’s not irrelevant it makes sense to be aggressive when you have a playoff roster like KC did but are lacking a QB that can take you to the next level.

You are completely missing the point here It’s not about caring the 2024 team missed the playoffs it’s that those teams were good and added a QB. Because they were already good they could afford to part with some draft capital. Buffalo used the extra capital they had acquired trading back so KC could take Mahomes to move for Allen. Giving up draft picks to get QB when you have a shitty roster is a recipe for hurting the QBs development. There will be other QBs. Buffalo passed on Mahomes but took Allen a year later, Lamar was also in the 2018 draft.

So what should they do then? Just never take a QB? Every draft pick has a chance of failing.

I feel like everyone (not necessarily you) thinks the team should just plan to "be bad and get a good pick next year" but (1) no team is going to actually tank in the NFL and (2) no one actually knows if next year's class is even good. Arch probably won't even come out.

The reality is this: to find our next franchise QB, they are eventually going to have to swing for one, and that means either we bottom out by happenstance in the right draft and do it at 1/2, or we trade up (most likely). All I care about is that the team believes in whoever they go get. If they truly think they've done their homework and "X" player is the guy, go get him, I don't care. My evaluation of the player as a fan (same goes for all of you) is not that valuable.

No you’re missing the point, you think that because you give up an extra pick or two that you can’t still build a roster? KC and Buffalo both traded picks for their QBs and their rosters didn’t fall off a cliff after that because they continued to make good moves. If you draft and sign well you can build a team either way, having one extra pick doesn’t make or break the roster and the development of a quarterback. The quarterback also doesn’t have to play right away if you are worried about his development then let him sit and develop, but never drafting one until you already have a playoff caliber team is dumb and unrealistic

True, but taking a swing does not mean reaching for a questionable prospect. Even in the top half of the first round, QBs are a 50/50 bet at best. After Cam Ward, are any of the QBs this year even top 15 players? Anyone we pick in this draft is so likely to fail, it feels like throwing away a draft pick.

I don’t think we should trade up for a qb in this draft.

But if we have to wait until we are a playoff team before we go get a qb, we will probably never do it.

unless a top 5 player drops, i agree on the trade with Broncos. Would also like to see Cowboys or Colts make a call.
