Looking at Saints draft since 2020, problem is lack of picks

2020- Only 4 draft picks. Ruiz has been average and we all know about Baun excelling with the Eagles. Not much to go off on regarding 2020 draft.
2021-Only 6 picks, Werner has been fine aside from injuries and I feel Adebo was a really good CB here, was hoping to retain him. Turner has of course been a bust so far. Mixed bag draft
2022- Only 5 picks. Olave has been a good WR for us. Penning has improved yet still average but a "serviceable" starter last year. Alontae Taylor has been a pretty good nickel and has versatility in the secondary. We hit on 2 of 5 with Penning still kind of waiting to see.
2023- Finally 7 picks. Bresee has played well and I think will continue to get even better. Foskey hasn't shown anything yet. Kendre has shown flashes and capability but always hurt. A.T Perry showed great preseason flashes but not enough in the season. I feel Howden has surprised many and can be a solid to good future safety. Haener a career but maybe one day solid backup QB. Saldiveri is depth at this point. I'm not ready to give up on Miller or Foskey yet. Bresee is a great pick and so is Howden. To early to say only 2 for 7 b/c that could improve.
2024- I think that class looks pretty promising.
I think we fall in line with most teams as far as the percentage of our picks that are successful. The issue is losing out on a player like Baun, where he could have been successful here, especially now in a 3-4. I like drafting lineman always in the 1st round, preferably even the 2nd. It's not the strategy its the bad picks but also bad coaching, and lack of picks. I think we do pretty well when we can have 7 plus picks.

We can't miss on top 2 rounds as often as we have had

Drew screwed us. We should’ve moved on from him way sooner

Piss poor drafting is also a major culprit.
Miller over Achane
Fosky over Branch.
Penning over Tyler Smith.
Almost anyone over P Turner and Ruiz.
Positions that have major holes that should be strengths right now.

Agree. It’s both. If you’re going to always be the team who gives up picks in order to trade up, then you better hit on the guys you take. And we haven’t often enough.
