Or train it’s refs about what the rule actually is.
Flexing your arm as long as you don’t move your contact hand or feet shouldn’t be offensive false start.

If the defense can jump and do cartwheels across the d line and that not be defensive it’s off sides wtf.

In the NFL, a false start is when an offensive player moves illegally after lining up for a play, and the penalty is a five-yard loss for the offending team's line of scrimmage. The rule is designed to prevent the offense from gaining an unfair advantage by deceiving the defense.

I do not know what the rule is, but that is clearly not the rule. Most teams have an offensive guard use his arm that is not touching the ground to signal the center to snap the ball,

This is just bitching to bitch. It is very clear to all involved that the penalty structure waaaaayyyy benefits offenses much more than defenses. Every single penalty on defense except an offsides is an automatic first down. Pick a different hill to be outraged about. This is such a weird post.

this completely disregards the fact that the defense, by definition, has to react to what an offense is doing. Inherently.

Offense comes out and shows a set, the defense HAS to be able to adjust to it.

The offense cant have OL guys set, and then abruptly twitch. Everyone would be offsides every play.

The defense can shift into new alignments that match.

Outside of player safety rules, every rule people bitch about makes more sense if you think about it as long as the people that made the rules.

With the possible exception of spot foul PI.

Usually the people that bitch about rules are the same people that watch 2 soccer games a year and say "they should get rid of offsides"

A friend brought up a good point a few weeks ago that I hadn't thought of

False start is a bad penalty because you know the snap count. Also, majority of the time there isn't an argument, it's either false start or it isn't, it's not a judgement call by the ref. 5 yard penalty

Holding on the other hand is usually a judgement call and could probably be called on every play. 10 yard penalty

Switch the yardage and make false start 10 and holding 5

His thoughts not mine but I don't hate it. Also would make home field advantage that much more important.

I'm actually cool with how it's been and feel like I understand it, with the one exception of why all teams' offensive tackles aren't getting a "head start" on backpeddling.

Do only some tackles prefer this "advantage"?

Someone can correct me, but they're not "set" when this happens and they're in 2-point stance. OL have a lot more leeway from a 2-point stance than once they get in a 3-point stance.

I agree with the OP. It's a stupid penalty in the first place. It's doing way more harm than good.

I just want them to start flagging tackles for dropping back to pass block before the ball is snapped. It’s gone from maybe perfectly timed with the snap to egregiously early now.
