We may actually get 3 or 4 starters out of this draft.
Indication of a good draft or a bad roster

Fuaga looks by all the talk to be the real deal thankfully
It’s way too soon to know that…especially as a LT.

Maybe but I wanna hang my hat on something optimistic right now and I think he's it where ever he plays.

I’ll take McCoys word for it… he stated Fuaga “ is a natural… he could play all 4 spots and be a dog”

We have all wanted the team to get younger and the front office decided (or was forced) to do that with the oline. It will be interesting finding 3 new starters. The guys competingfor the 3 spots all have good bios and tons of College snaps under their belts but we don't have a ton of NFL experience.
It's weird to predict how this group will be. They could be anywhere from worst in the league to average. I think average is the ceiling for the group. We will not have a line that will be in the top of the NFL. There is not enough proven experience to think they will be more than average.
Oline is my favorite position to follow and watch. He are some of my thoughts.
Mccoy (age 26) will be his steady self and hopefully stay injury free. If Mccoy goes down look for Ruiz to switch or for Lucas Patrick to take over at C.
People always call Ruiz(age 25) average but I think he's a little above average and I like his versatility. He will hopefully have a good steady year.
Fuaga (age 22) will have a learning curve for sure. A rookie at LT is not ideal. Hopefully he is the real deal and adjust quick or it will be a long year. Everything we are hearing is that he is the real deal.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Salvaderi (age 23) does. I like his size a lot but only two years of experience is concerning. If he struggles look for the team to switch to Lucas Patrick (age - 31) quickly. Patrick doesn't quite have the size but he is a 8 year vet that could be steady if we need him.
Circle your calendar for the August 15th practice against the 49ers to see how Penning (age- 25) is doing. Bosa is either going expose him or show Penning might be coming around. I'm personally not high on Penning. I hope he works out and I like his size. But from all I've seen including this year's training camp videos I think he is slow and dumb and learning a new side. Not a good combo in my book. I did see the interview today where Armstead is mentoring him during the off-season and they have focused a lot on mental preparation. They talked about having a plan before you get to the line of scrimmage etc. Imo, Penning needs all the help he can get on the mental side to make this work. He has excellent size and athletic ability for his size. Hopefully the mental work helps him put it all together to better use that size.
Imo, if Penning struggles, I think the team will be quick to switch over to Landon Young (age 26) or Oli Udoh (age- 27). I like Udoh as a sleeper starter if we need him. He has good size, experience, and he has played for Kubiak in Minn. Udoh is also more versatile then Penning because he has played T and G in the NFL. Penning better be looking over his shoulder or Udoh or Young may take his spot. We have had Landon Young on the roster for 3 years. If Penning struggles it would be a great time for Landon to step up and take that spot. He has great size at 6'7" and can play LT or RT. It's going to be a good competition between Udoh and Young to see who is the backup tackle if Fuaga and Penning do ok.
I don't know a lot about Lemeuix(age- 27) except he did have an excellent career at Oregon in college. Hopefully he puts something together and can be a contributor.
I'm personally pulling for the Tulane guy Sincere Haynesworth to make the practice squad. He was a 5 year starter at Tulane and has some versatility to play multiple positions. I'm not sure how it's going for him so far but I would like to see him have time to develop.
All in all, the oline this year is a younger inexperienced group. I think that will limit Kubiak a bit but I'm also hopeful that the youth helps and they will grow as a unit.
Like I said earlier after the practices against the 49ers defense, we should all have a better idea where the oline group stands right now and if Penning will be a starter or not and how quick Fuaga has adapted.

That's not rough...it's horrible. Does he really want to play pro ball?
Posted on 7/30/24 at 1:42 pm to goatmilker
Penning looks like he pulls up on his foot there? injury?
Posted on 7/30/24 at 1:53 pm to goatmilker
My god lol. Dude didn’t even put a move on penning just kept going backwards lmao. This line is screwed

Reports out of camp today was that Penning had a rough day and was on the ground a lot.

Second day of pads too. I would think after last year, he would come out with more force and confidence early, at least to send a message. I guess I was wrong.

That's brutal from Penning. He did seem to favor his right foot at the end of that rep.
Rule #1 of Oline is don't let the dline beat you on a inside rush because its the straightest line to the QB. Penning also got beat on a straight ahead bull rush. That was nothing fancy from Granderson.
If that's what we are going to get from Penning, Carr is going to get injured quick and we will be playing whoever the backup is and they will get killed also.
If that's the best he can do, Bosa (and any nfl edge rusher) is going to eat Penning's lunch and we will have officially have a 1st round huge bust on our hands.
I hope he comes around but I don't have much faith he will.

Everything we have ever seen from penning has been awful.
I can't believe they are going to start this dude at rt with no one else

Carr isn’t going to make it more than 4 games
Posted on 8/1/24 at 4:41 pm to thermal9221
I’m glad Fuaga is doing well but Penning is going to get Carr killed. He’s the product of picking based off need only and not skill in the first round.

In four team sessions of Day 7 or training camp, the oline gave up 19 sacks.
Saints defense is good but the offense is in big trouble from what I'm hearing.

Holy crap! And I hate to say it…our defensive line isn’t that great. Granderson is above average and Bresee is really good on the inside. But Cam is old and Saunders and Boyd are more run stoppers. Unless Folksey or Turner are playing lights out…yeesh!

My goodness, he looks lost out there. I was really hoping this guy would come in and be a brute for our o-line. I guess it's true that college ball is on a different level than high-school, and pro-ball is on another level that college ball.
Is he THAT bad, or is there something else going on here? Mentally it looks like he's defeated. 3rd season and all of the negative talk, plus being benched....I wonder if it's got him f-ed up in the head.
