Question about Superdome Suites...

Okay,

So my boss is talking about buying a corporate suite in the Superdome and I am obviously trying to convince him to do so. My main argument is that he can sell off the suite for some big name events to make some of the money back (he just wants to go to Saints games with his family and bring clients from out of town). Obviously the suites are expensive (120K+ a year plus tickets, food, drinks etc) but I am trying to tell him that if he sells off the suite for events other than the Saints games, he will make a lot of it back and therefore cut back on his costs.

Does anyone know what type of money a 16 person suite would get for for tulane games, the sugar bowl, super bowl, NO Bowl or the NCAA tourney (2012 Final Four will be played there)?

Some help would be greatly appreciated from myself and the rest of my office

Honestly, there will be almost no interest in all of those events that you listed other than Sugar Bowls and every 4th year National Championship. The Final Four might be an issue if you're not near the proper endzone where they setup the basketball court and whatnot.

Just my two cents, which I know doesn't help your cause too much.

I don't see how this will work, seeing as how you have to pay for the suite for those events, then sell them off. The only thing being a suite owner for the saints does when it comes to those events, is it gives you the first option to purchase those suits.

If your boss is big enough potatoes to consider buying a suite than he is surely big potatoes enough to know other dudes who currently hold suites. He needs to talk to them to see how they handle it. IMHO thats the only way.

Or in the same sense, he might know some other big dogs that would want to go into the suite in pieces (split up games or tickets etc). That's how a lot of people do it anyway.

My wife's company has a 16 seat suite. Your annual dollars are about right. Also, as a suite owner, you can purchase up to 5 other tickets for the games (600 level) and they too can get a "pass" to come into the suite. So, you can have really up to 21 folks in the suite at a time (kind of crowded though).

As a way to reduce costs, you can purchase the suite then sell some of the tickets to another company.

As far as renting out for events, forget the Superbowl, the NFL takes them all. Sugar Bowl can be between $10-15K. The Bayou Classic can be about $3-5K. The Essence Festival can realistically get about $5K. NCAA tourney-don't know if a suite owner can keep it or has to give it up. If there are concerts in the dome during the ownership period, could be rented for that event for about $1-3K, depending upon the act. LHSAA State Championships could be sold, but not the kind of crowd or $ you're looking for.

For me, the best bet is to split the cost with another company, get the 5 extra tix and sell the rest of the events if possible. 16 tix for 10 games is quite a bit.

That's a good idea. This all started about a year ago when he got brought up into a friends suite. He has season tickets but he likes the idea of bringing employees/clients into his own suite and buying it through the company. I'll tell him to call his buddy and ask about it

thanks

My boss has a suite at Jerry World, and Verizon Center in Little Rock.....Any time ANY event comes there, we have a list as long as your arm for people wanting to rent them out....It does not matter what the event, somebody wants in.

I don't know if this would get the IRS all over his arse, but I would look into possibly claiming at least part of it as a business expense.

A friend of mine's parents have a suite. They sold it to some guy named Farve for the NFC championship game. I don't know the particulars of the deal but I think it paid a good bit of the cost of the year.
