I guess there always needs to be a default highest rated guy. Doesn’t mean they think any of them are all that good. I’d say it’s likely more to them thinking Ward is not a great prospect than loving Shough.

My problem with him being a high draft pick is his age. He's already 25 and will be 26 by the start of the season.

Not even an issue. The question about his age would be how much better he will or will not be from what he is now.

What a piss-poor QB class. Please, Saints, this is not the year to draft a QB.

Same recruiting class as Trevor Lawrence (on his second contract in NFL)
Was a backup to Justin Herbert (been in the NFL 5 years)
Has 4 college degrees

His age is definitely an issue.

There are some teams that have Tyler Shough as their highest rated quarterback in the entire draft, according to @adamschefter

This has been known for weeks if not months …. Not sure why he is tweeting this today

How? You’ve said nothing. He’s locked on a rookie deal and one of the most nfl ready players in the draft. Maturity is only a plus on a qb needy team.

He's had one year of actual quality college play. That's more worrisome.

He's Brandon Weeden 2.0

If I’m investing a top pick in a guy and he hits I’d definitely prefer that first massive contract to happen at 25-26 instead of 31.

It’s not the end of the world but if he hits you’re still losing out on 5ish seasons of play. That’s not insignificant.

That’s a pretty short sighted synopsis

Phil Simms was 24 and Burrow and Kenny Pickett were 23 when they were drafted. 25 is getting up there though. You’re getting close to Brandin Weeden and Chris Winkie territory.

I didn’t watch many of Shough’s games, but his highlights are pretty good.

Not the first time I've heard that and again I do not buy it at all.

6 injury riddled college seasons.
Only 1 (2024) that he performed like a top level QB and look good, (but when he looked bad he really looked bad)

He'll be 26 when the season starts.

This is not a guy that you say is the best QB in the draft and mean it. This is a guy you say, could turn out to be the best BQ in this draft class in things fall into the right place.

You do not bet a 1st round pick and maybe your job on that guy. What you do is try to smoke screen some other desperate team into betting a 1st round pick and possibly their job on that guy hoping it means the guy you really want slides to you.

For me the question isn't about his age necessarily, but the age of his opponents. There's a difference between a 25 year old throwing against 20 year olds and then that 25 year old having to step up to his own age group.

He’s been in college for 7 years and has absolutely nothing to show for it. Where’s his production? His completion percentage is not good. He’s not an athlete. But he’s a generic white guy that no one’s heard of so of course this board likes him
