Carr didnt decide to accept a restructure, the Saints did it.

Doesnt mean much other than the end game is still unknown.

Looks the part of the current mold of several teams looking to have a veteran qb and the qb of the future.

Question is if we really see Rattler as the future or if some young talent is also drafted.

A qb like Ewers is possible in the third, since we met with him etc. (not a fan just pointing out)

Basically says same about the Carr restructure. Carr wanted to possibly leave (moved his whole family etc - potentially related or not) and Saints said naw, we’re gonna keep you at least another year/pay you.

What it doesnt mean is that its all roses between the Saints/Carr.

Hopefully we make plans to draft a 1st round qb and move on at some point soon.

I like Carr but he is hurt/old at this point and I dont have faith in his longterm health, its tough to play along time at qb in the league. We all see this etc. mid thirties can often spell the end for players.

Update:

Speculation of post June 1st trade of Carr still, depending upon the draft/need after.

Basically, where this goes may still be questionable.

Doesn't matter if it's a contractual right or not, we are literally taking his base salary and instead of making him wait week to week to get the checks once the season starts, we are handing him that whole chunk now.

No person is going to say, "Nah, I don't want $30 mil now, I'd rather wait some months and take it $2 mil at a time each week."

Agreed.

Im hoping we go for Ward/Sanders, or get a top qb next year.

It does. The narrative that Carr agreed to anything is incorrect.

The Saints are going to keep him as their QB, clearly at his age he is a bridge. And we need to find our future QB asap. IMO

If Kellen Moore thought Rattler was the future, they would have released Carr. The accounting for restructure versus release was very similar and actually more overall savings to cut. By absorbing the extra money to keep Carr, they are saying that Rattler is not the answer.

Maybe.

Seems to be more like the Saints are keeping an older vet with a perceived younger talent for the future.

I hope they dont think its Rattler though and invest in the QB position with a high pick at some point.

That’s $65.428 million in post-2025 dead money for the Saints, flowing directly from the Carr contract.

So we're basically fricked for the next three years. Thanks a lot Loomis.

Carr already agreed to be on this team through 2026, so he doesn't need to agree to anything else. Not sure where we are going with any of this.

And yes, obviously we need to find our next QB, but that's also 75+% of teams in the league. That has nothing to do with Carr agreeing or not to anything though.

I doubt his granddad would want that TBH. He would probably engineer something similar to what Eli did with the Chargers and the Giants back in 2004. Which still worked out for the Chargers since they got Philip Rivers.

He could have left, easily agree to a restructured deal that allows him to be moved.

He chose money, because nobody is stupid enough to leave 30mil on the table.

If all goes well this year. Cool.

If it doesn't, we need to find one in the draft.

Naw leaving would not happen easily, otherwise we wouldve traded him.

If you mean that you think that other teams would have negotiated, and trade for Carr IF he agreed to get paid less, then this is your speculation only, since there are absolutely no news reports supportting this AT ALL.

Naw. We need to plan for the future whether Carr plays well or not.

this and with the tweet from 104.5 BR about Carr willing to test the market AND NOT ONE TEAM showed interest he trying to save face by saying he is a wanted QB.

You're not though Carr. You suck. Can't wait until they cut him

You are being downvoted, but if you look back at realistic posts years later it’s often the downvoted posts that prove most accurate.

The fact is the Moore regime will be starting with a QB who really doesn’t want to be playing here. I wonder how that’s going to work out. Hint: Not well.

Ehh with it being so similar I'd think you'd want the extra security/options as a HC. Rattler very likely isn't it but the chances he received in no way allow for any kind of accurate assessment. Brady and Brees would've struggled with that supporting cast.
