Should the Saints try and get Asante Samuel Jr, if he is still available? Our current group is not very impressive on paper. Or if someone else is available get them?

I think Samuel Jr has concerns about a neck/shoulder injury. Seems that’s why he hasn’t been signed yet.

I wouldn’t tie ourselves to anyone long term. Let the young guys sink or swim in major role and go from there.

I think this draft and offseason was all about bringing maturity and toughness to the Saints. FAs we brought in were DT and S. Draft was all up the middle, S, LBer, DT, OT, QB and RB.
This is the rebuild everyone on here has wanted for a few years now. We will let expiring contracts clear and don’t need to tie ourselves up to big contracts or big names because we aren’t winning a bunch at the moment anyway.

Right. This is basically what we wanted regardless of what Mickey is calling it or telling the press. Very measured moves across the board. Not thinking we’re one FA signing from competing.
Then we get all these what about ___player like were in the later years of the Brees regime.
For us to get right and build a future roster there shouldn’t be much of that. We don’t need an old fat Keenan Allen or overpriced corner. We need a few solid years of drafts (with a lot of picks) and actually BUILDING a roster.
Once we have a new, younger nucleus in place and the old guard/money is out THEN you add the higher end guys that we haven’t drafted.

Most draft pics in ten years and no moving around at all.
Some folks will never be happy.

This. Bring somebody in for a one year deal, like we did with Willie Gay last year, then hope the younger guys beat him out or develop over the course of the season into starters going forward.

Also monitor training camp cuts and trade options (6 or 7th round picks or player swaps), for players that may be better fits in our schemes than their current team.
A great example is Rob Ninkovich, who bounced around between the Saints and Dolphins as a bottom of the roster type player, then after being cut by the Saints in training camp, was picked up by the Patriots and went on the start the next 5 seasons for them because he fit their 3-4.
They need to keep a close eye on any CB’s cut from teams that run mostly man coverage.

Sounds like a Saints FA signing to me.
