Based on his dump offs to running backs?

Brock Purdy was the last guy drafted. Brady was also barely drafted. There are guys out there that can shock the world. It likely won’t be him or Haener but you gotta keep searching. New offensive staff gives me some hope.

That’s a huge part of Payton’s system. He uses the passing game as an extension of the running game.

Did falcons drafting penix show how bad the cousins' signing was?

Kinda yea

Lol

Are you using that as an argument to defend Jake Haener? Lol

Who cares? It was a mid round pick that didn’t work out.

We traded up for Haener, so it's not just like we wasted one pick.

Worst of all, we trade future picks (our 4th rounder this year) to do so.

If Saints aren't drafting a 1st round QB they should be trying dart throws every season

But never trade future assets to do so.

I am more than okay with drafting a QB every year, especially on Day 3, until you get it right.

I am too, but we should never, ever trade up for a mid-round QB, especially if that trade involves future picks.

Normal variance on a drat pick is high, but a QB outside of the top 10 is insane, and it increases as the draft goes on.

Nobody is good at evaluating/picking QBs, so there is no logic to claim you've identified a mid-round QB worthy of trading up to acquire. It's ego/vanity, not logic.

I’ve said this many times.

If you don’t have a great QB, pick one somewhere in the draft almost every year, even if it’s late. Throw the darts. Hope to hit.

God help me, I agree with SFP. Take the flyer on a QB if he falls to you, don't trade future assets for a lottery ticket that is incredibly unlikely to hit. The Rattler pick is a textbook example of how to do it. Haener is not.

I think it more reflects a the change in offensive philosophy for the first time in 18 years. The Saints were constantly chasing the next Drew Brees. Smaller guy with somewhat questionable arm strength who was a better "touch" guy that great thower.

While Rattler is shorter like Brees and the others, he can snap throws off pretty quickly and did it against high level competition. He's more Baker Mayfield than poor man's Drew Brees. That's not to say he will ever start an NFL game. But I think with a new offensive approach for the first time in nearly two decades they Saints are no longer desperate to find a Brees clone.

Saints trade up for Haener too. I thought he would would be QB2 this season. Saints take late pick on QB isn't a bad thing. You have tp make that QB room strongest part of the team.

I think the Spencer Rattler pick shows how bad the Bo Nix pick was, if anything. We got a better QB prospect in rd 5, than the Broncos did at #12.

How can you even say this? Both were big time qb recruits.
One produced at a Heisman level and the other didn’t.

Not really. Haener was Senior Bowl MVP too. Now, the Back street Boy Hair, The Glamour shots, and the PED suspension does detract from him, but he is still in the rotation. Give him a chance. He studied with Gruden on his own time.

Haener and Rattler will elevate each other. Someone will emerge better due to the competition of similar age and draft values.
