He earned it. Tampa can afford it. What has Derek done for you?

I'm sure you guys will tell who that retread should've been around November. No tool makes for a better message board GM than hindsight

No, im not playing results based here, grab Dalton, or a justin fields, or minshew or aidan oconnell or desmond ridder or whomever is available for cheap. They are all similar. Build around them until you draft “the guy”

TB did make the playoffs, however both lead their teams to 9-8 records.

2023 Stats
Mayfield..4,404 yards, 28TD-10INT, 64.3% completion, 54.4QBR
Carr......3,787 yards, 25TD-8INT, 68.4% completion, 56.4QBR

Carr's average annual salary is $37.5M, so if he gets $40M average that's essentially the same with a slight bump Baker for being 4 years younger & their team being playoffs this season

No good team is going to just drop a qb that got them into the playoffs.

They should if that player doesnt project to be great.

Think the giants are excited they signed danny dimes to that huge deal?

I think they were when he signed it. Daboll had him playing well in that offense.

My point is, no good team is just going to rotate through Aidan O'Connell or ridder a year after making the playoffs with baker.

He was the 1st overall pick and actually played well.

Do you really think the gm should let him walk to sign O'Connell or ridder?

Now I will say I wouldn't be happy paying baker 40 mil. I don't think I would do it.

I agree the Saints should've reset and grabbed a guy like Baker for a yr.

The stats were roughly the same. I don't know if I'd say "better". And Tampa didn't just make the playoffs. They actually won a game and were, relatively, competitive in the second game. I don't know if the Saints beat even the spiraling Eagles.

Regardless, TB at least has the flexibility if they don't want to pay the (purported) market value. And TB got a great return on their relatively low investment. The Saints didn't and the Saints don't have the flexibility of passing on paying Mayfield's new cost if they don't think he's worth it. They are essentially stuck with "Baker Mayfield" level production for the foreseeable future at a prohibitive cost that will hinder (at least to some degree) the ability to get better players.

You missed the point completely. Counting 5 or 6 million on the csp this year could have cleared up alot of our cap problems.

Been saying for years to sign Bsker Bridgewater or Minshew to a cheap one year prove it deals. It’s the only way to get out of this mess Loomis created. Instead he goes in the hole even deeper with Carr

Two of them were named pro bowl quarterbacks this year and cost roughly 1/5 of Carrs salary.

Passer rating - Carr
QBR - Carr
Yds - baker
Yds/att - equal
Comp % - Carr
Td - baker
Td% - baker
Int (less) - Carr
Int% - Carr

The 2 main metrics for qb play both favor Carr

Would be nice to make that choice on a player that played very well and is younger than the one that played worse and is older. Especially since that production gave you the ability to clean up your cap situation.

But I’m so glad we’re pushing Carr’s money into the future for average play and shitty leadership.
