Like it or not (and I don't) we are giving them our 4 pick for Carr. This is being worked on as we speak and will be announced shortly. I am not sure if we have to throw in a player but I certainly hope not.

Holy Shite. I get we need to make the appearance of trying, but the restructuring needed to make this work (already $60M over the cap) is setting this up to be a 5-7 year rebuild.

I would load up on rookie contracts and use the draft to find a QB in ‘24 but to each his own.

If we feel carr is a difference maker, you make the trade. You can't take the chance of losing him in FA.

Not saying carr is the difference maker...

ETA... I do question how you would get this scoop though

Dennis Allen is a terrible coach but he ain't an idiot. Carr gives him his best chance of winning this year and he is going to take it. He doesn't have to think 3-5 years, because he is gone if he doesn't win next season.

It is what it is.

THE division is up for grabs I'll take Carr for a 4th easily.

I'm not nearly as worried about the 4th as I am about what his contract will look like.
I would say it is obvious that a restructure or completely new contract is part of the deal, but I'm not sure I trust Mickey anymore with anything other than cap work.

Totally. Saints are choosing the path to winning, not three year rebuild. Loomis knows how to work the salary cap. Restructuring to make things work isn't a problem.

If Carr is ok to average, he'll be a guy that will bridge the gap to our next drafted QB. If we're able to get him back to his 2019 or 2020 performance, we can be set at QB for the next five or six seasons.

Even when you could wait a week and get him for nothing? Carr choses where he goes. Why give the Raiders anything unless they restructure and absorb a significant amount of cap (which I doubt).

Carr would rather be traded to keep current contract. I think it's better than the one he'd get in FA.

if he comes with a favorable restructured contract i don't think it'll be bad deal. if we're gonna pay him 40mil a year, it's a bad deal.

He has a no trade clause. So wouldn't he have to approve the trade to the Saints? If thats the case, then wouldn't he come here in free agency anyways?

Carr can win with our defense, especially in the South. He's never had an above average defense, most of them pretty crappy.

I wouldn't cry over this.

if we get the 18-21 version we'll win the division. considering carr's superior arm strength and athletic profile, he could probably play into his 40s if he wanted.

the 4th for an upgrade a QB is a really good deal, IF, we get the restructure at a reasonable rate for his skill set.

He is not a top 10 QB, so if he gets something in the 20-25M range a year, i would be ok with that. No one else is paying him more.

if he's due 80M in 2 years, how do we make it work to get there?
