Treash: 2022 Top 10 NFL slot cornerback rankings

Pretty cool article...

Slot corner is the most undervalued position in the NFL.
Over the last decade, NFL teams have shifted away from base defense into nickel. This transition, along with the surplus of slot-friendly skill sets, has meant that the slot cornerback position has become an afterthought. But that shouldn't be the case, and several notable cornerbacks — including NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders — will say the same thing.
Here are the NFL's best slot cornerbacks heading into the 2022 NFL season.
Note: This list only includes players who play mostly in the slot. It doesn't consider outside corners who are moving to the slot in 2022 and vice versa. It also discounts hybrid players who will move between the two spots in any given game — Jalen Ramsey and Marlon Humphrey, for example.
#1 KENNY MOORE II, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
#2 MIKE HILTON, CINCINNATI BENGALS
#3 JONATHAN JONES, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
#4 TARON JOHNSON, BUFFALO BILLS
#5 CHAUNCEY GARDNER-JOHNSON, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
Known as one of the best trash-talkers in the game, Garner-Johnson is also one of the league's best slot corners. Along with his ability to get in his opponent's head, the Saints corner has sharp read-react ability and man coverage skills. He's made more plays on the ball in the slot than anyone else since entering the league in 2018 (24).
The 6-foot, 208-pound Florida product has the chance to challenge for the top spot on this list in the coming seasons if his tackling can continue to improve and cut down on his penalties.
#6 TROY HILL, LOS ANGELES RAMS
#7 BRYCE CALLAHAN, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
#8 NATE HOBBS, LAS VEGAS RAIDERS
#9 AVONTE MADDOX, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
#10 TAVIERRE THOMAS, HOUSTON TEXANS

I have some real concerns on whether the saints will actually pay him next year. They have a lot of corner depth and if contract negotiations get tough I wouldn’t be shocked if they let him walk. Hopefully they can keep him here a long time because he’s the type of guy you love on your team and hate to play against. Plus he fits the team and city so well.

Technically CGJ is a safety, & Lattimore, Adebo, & Roby don't really play the slot anyway. They may play some, but not a high volume of snaps.
PJ Williams can play the slot, but he's much better as a hybrid safety. He struggled last year in the slot when he filled in for CGJ. CGJ blows PJ Williams out of the water in man-to-man coverage in the slot. That's actually PJ's weakness, but he's plenty good enough in run support.
Honey Badger can play slot in some situations, but he's not a true slot CB.
The only guy that might be able to replace him is Alontae Taylor imo, but we've never even seen him play yet.
I think we'll re-sign CGJ. He shouldn't be anywhere near as expensive as a legit outside CB. Those are the CB's that get paid big.
Next year, we have 4 options imo
-Re-sign CGJ
-Sign another F.A. slot CB
-Draft a slot CB
-Roll with Alontae Taylor if he can handle the job
Personally, I hope we do re-sign CGJ. He's great against the run, a very underrated blitzer, plays a legit Strong Safety, & he's just a great player to have on your roster. He's not elite in coverage, but he's pretty damn good. He has a couple of bad games a year, but who doesn't. I'd be upset if he left.

Probably my favorite 2021 Saints moment last year.

That was awesome. I'll never forget that.
Even Brady thought it was funny. I don't think he was expecting him to do that. Brady was going to say something to him, then just stopped in his tracks & laughed.

Don’t see them turning around and giving him 10M/yr after practically dealing him in the Watson deal. They already told you what they think. McCoy and Davenport TAKE priority. The Taylor pick will make a lot more sense next year

As popular as the NFL is I know like maybe 2 guys in that list.
NFL is still a team brand league almost exclusively

Was this ever confirmed? Seemed like he was just messing with people on Twitter.
I don’t think we sign him either though. He plays a position that is relatively easy to replace and he has already indicated he wants top dollar.

I agree that if he wants top dollar, then he's gone. We're not paying our slot guy top dollar.
