Wife and I want to send the kids on a 1 month to 2 month long summer camp somewhere outside of Louisiana so they can experience the outdoors and be kids. I know some others on here have gone to these camps and want to know what your experience has been for either you or your kids. Looking for serious responses not ADA complaints from people OweO.
Anyone have any suggestions? We are looking at Raquette Lake in NY, Camp Laurel in Maine, Camp Manitou in Maine, Camp Androscoggin in Maine, Point O'Pines in NY, Camp Skylemar in Maine, Camp Highlander in NC, Camp Menominee in Wisconsin, Camp Carolina in NC, and Camp Winaukee in NY but it seems like there are hundreds of other camps out there as well.

I’d say you’re a little late in planning for this summer, good luck on getting rid of the kids next summer...

I have friends who did khadalea and chosatonga in NC. They loved it. My kid is still young so we do Camp Ozark and it’s typically for 1-2 week sessions. Based on only having been to ozark to drop my kid off that place is run like a well oiled machine. It’s still rustic, but an amazingly well done camp. Kids can do any activity from film making to scuba diving. They have a ski program and a lake with 5 or so blobs. Ozark honors genders and competition between tribes. They do offer longer programs for those that would like it, but the kids would end up repeating their experience.

Camp Kahdalea & Chosatonga - Brevard, NC.
It's run by a family from Louisiana. Good bit of the kids are from LA & MS so they'll share common interests. Even have a bus that brings them to/from.

Be sure to add Camp North Star to the list.
RIP Camp Mountain Lake!
Edited to mention I was joking about North Star. I didn't realize there was a real Camp North Star.

Your kids must be too soft to send to the pipeline and earn a check like I did

Camp Hope is the number 1 choice

I'm assuming this is for next summer since schools in LA start back in 4 weeks.

I went to Camp Balcones Springs (Austin, TX) once as a kid but I got kicked out for grabbing another girls boob. It's a little on the religious side but they had some cool activities like kayaking, archery, tennis, obstacle courses, etc.

We always went to the camp in the marsh or Last Island for the summer. I had a childhood friend who fell down a mountain at Camp Arrowhead and died.

Clearly the camp has a lot to do with the experience, but i went to a 1 month long one here in Alabama pretty much every summer from 3rd grade through graduating high school (4 years were as a counselor).
Some of my favorite experiences as a kid was from there. Was a ton of fun and really grew up a lot going. If you choose a good camp, it should definitely be a net positive for your kids.

Yes this would be for 2020 not 2019. I'll check into Mondamin as well. Camp Laurel and Camp Carolina are two at the top of my list for sure.
And this isn't to get "rid of the kids" it is to help broaden their experience to other areas of the country, teach them to do things on their own, and learn outdoor activities that I can't teach them. A couple of those camps teach the kids how to handglide, mountaineer, or white water kayak--I'm too old to learn those sports but want my kids exposed to it as well.
