Authorities have released the name of an elderly Hoover woman who was killed when her vehicle went off the fifth floor of a parking deck at Grandview Medical Center.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Janette Daniels Johnson. She was 82.

When crews arrived, they found the silver, four-door sedan on its roof.
Firefighters immediately began to try to extricate Johnson, but once they were able to get to her and realized she was dead, they stopped to await the arrival of the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

“More times than not, usually the guide cables will catch them,’’ Hendon said. “I don’t know the speed she was traveling, but this time they didn’t stop her, and she was able to come off the deck.”

yeah I read that like it was common
but I'm also in the group that thinks once you hit a certain age you need to retake the test and see if you can still drive.
yesterday was a perfect example of why old people don't need to be on the road.
we have main road here in Little Rock that is 45 MPH and I was behind an blue handicap sticker car driving at a whopping 18 MPH, just completely fricking traffic at lunch time. at some point they are legitimately a danger on the roadway.

Nobody over 75 should be allowed to drive

I thought about making that the focal point of the post, but I figured someone else would bring it up. The cause of this particular case though may have to do with why she was at a hospital. If she had any kind of procedure that inhibited her ability to drive, the hospital might be in some shite for letting her leave by herself.

We had a woman at Touro do the same thing on the 3rd floor of a parking garage. Fortunately, her car stopped and didn't go over the edge.

and that's a completely fair point as well that should be acknowledged.
My particular experiences are just dealing with old people on the roadways, one being incredibly dangerous when I was driving back and forth on the interstate. Once again got behind a blue handicap sticker on the on ramp and they were legit going 25 MPH merging into the interstate
I drove past them on the shoulder as the big trucks were honking and breaking trying to move over. thought I was going to have a semi crash through the back of my truck

I mean, this thread is one example of the "not".

True, some 75 year olds may should not drive. But to place them all in the same bucket is incredibly naive.

There absolutely should be a certain age where you have to test every year for your drivers license. There are a lot of elderly folks on the road who mean well but have no business being on the road. We all know it.

I'd reckon that as a whole 75+ are better drivers than 21 down

Now that's the way to go out.

I find it ironic that she died going to a doctors appointment.

And her family will sue the hospital for a payday rather than accepting that they should’ve never let grandma keep driving.
After 75 you should be required to test every 18 months. Over 85 and it’s every year. Old people driving at snail speeds are a bigger danger on the road than Hellcats doing 80 in a 50.

this will be the basis of the lawsuit. i don't agree with there being a lawsuit but i would think they would have better barriers than cables
