Not Sidney. His cousins do have a place. Sidney's uncle helped to develop the whole of Lakeshore Estates. It's built well. The land is actually high on those Islands. There was minimal flooding there during Katrina. Robert Torres built it.
If the Torres's dont want a casino there then there wont be a casino there.....who owns the property were the proposed casino would be built?

That was Bobby Torres’ house.
Gotcha.
Sidney’s brother?
Robert "Bobby" Torres is the brother of Sidney Torres Jr. the father of Sidney Torres III (the attorney) who is the father of Sidney Torres IV (the garbage owner).

I am pretty sure Robert "Bobby" Torres went into bankruptcy over most of the Lakeshore area. I believe his creditors may own it but I am not aware who that may be.

The article says the casino will be built on 50 acres of a 100 acre track...there isnt 50 acres much less 100 acres at that location....and yes Robert Torres still owns the track to the East or across the street from The Blind Tiger.
Not sure what 100 acre track the article is referring to

Blind Tiger is in blue, Lakeshore Marina in yellow on picture below. I believe the casino will in in the area in red. No name(s) come up when those parcels are queried.

Looks like if you add up all the open land around TBT, basically from the marina to the apartments its right at 50 acres, would be interesting how the hell they would even make it.
Regardless, I don't see St. Tammany residents being too interested in a casino, but it would be cool to see if they could actually make something 1/2 decent - like a Golden Nugget or Hard Rock

How would a casino on Hyacinth in Southdowns change that neighborhood?
Hey now. Stay the hell out my hood.

That area in red is no where near 50 acres if you add it up.
It's hardly 20 acres

yeah I saw that too...wonder if that's some sort of right of way...isnt there a levee along that waterfront? I wonder if the Corps have control of that land

The area across the street between West End and Lakeshore Marina Rd is about 17 more acres. If they're saying its going to be built on a 50 acre tract then they must be using land on both sides of Lakeshore Marina Dr. Maybe the plans are for the hotel/resort on one side and casino across the street?
I expect the residents right there are going to fight this hard. Having a casino resort there is going to be non-stop noise and have a ton of boats with people partying aboard going in and out of that canal.

There is no levee along the lakefront in Slidell. The levee is set back a ways. Look to the northeast where the Lakeshore Village neighborhood is at. That's where the levee is at.

I don’t think he owns anything anymore.
Eta: Pre Katrina there were plans for two Florida resort style condo towers to built there if those are the parcels previously owned/owned by Torres.

The article says it will be built on 50 acres of a 100 acre track...
ETA: 4.4 million square feet or roughly 101 acres.

As a developer, if you got approval to build, you would be dumb not to buy out everything south of the Shell station. How much could that boat storage shed and rental apartment complex cost? Carve out some space for the Bling Tiger to operate as you need access to the larger section of water to build anything similar to what the Gulf Coast casinos have. Judging by the size of the boats, those docks are about 120’ out. Once that residential peninsula across the water builds their docks (conservatively assume 10’ off the bank and 10’ of boat beam when docked), there will be a pinch point for boat traffic.

So they’re going to build outside of the levee? That will end well.

A lot of those houses barely got water for Katrina and newer ones are at 16’. I’m sure a multistory Casino would have atleast one floor of parking underneath putting the first floor close to 25’.
