A problem I see: Everyone wants to be an activist these days. It’s the new hotness.

I don’t know how it became in vogue, but so many people these days want to have a Rosa Parks moment. They want to have a Selma moment.

They like to play the victim because it gives them the opportunity to be a strong activist. So much so that they’ll even make things up or stage hoaxes to have their moment. Being a victim and standing strong is like activist street cred.

It’s why Bubba Wallace doubled down after the FBI concluded that he wasn’t a target of a hate crime. Secretly, he enjoyed his victim status. It gave him an opportunity to stand strong. Being the target was activist street cred. He didn’t want to let that go. So he doubled down in a last-ditch effort to keep his street cred intact.

How this kind of phenomenon came to be, I don’t know. But I think it’s quite clear that being an aggrieved activist is an identity for a lot of young people the same way there were groups of goths or jocks in high school.

I also have a theory that a lot of this “social justice” stuff is simply filling the void left by people not being as religious these days. Humans have an innate need to believe in something righteous. That traditionally has been religion. As religion has grown less popular in the West, social justice is there to fill the void. Social Justice is a new religion.

We're also paying people to protest. Think about that for a minute.

The government gave people money.

The people protest the government.

Generational focus on self. People began to realize there wasn't really anything special about themselves except for the few who got attention from being victims and so it just took off from there.

It’s the same reason they have green hair & holes in their face
They want so bad to be different, to feel special
Either they are spoiled rich kids that’s parents worked 24/7 & never gave them a lick of attention or they were born into broken households where they were forgotten about while mom worked 3 jobs to support them

Basically the extremes kids go to for attention, to get noticed, to feel special is sad
The breakdown of the nuclear family has led to what we are seeing now

True activism, yes. A lot of this stuff today has become fashionable.

isn't it kind of ironic to run to a message board to complain about activism/social media?

You just don't agree with it. People said the same thing about the civil rights movement.

Thats not to say you won't be the one on the right side of history, but your opinion isnt new.

I think you’re on to something here. Most of the white girls are fugly or fat. They never got the attention in school like the hot girls

Progressive activists want to be a part of the solution so badly that they don't even bother asking "what is the problem?"

You say this and yet yield no examples. Are you complaining about your average joe on FB or IG? or influencers?

I can get on board with the belief that influencers do this (a pretty popular BR influencer is a perfect example). But I don't think it's as "fashionable" as you are making it out to be and in some cases, you calling it fashionable is purely to belittle what is actually going on.

It kind of reminded me of about 10 years ago when everyone started to wear pink to support awareness of breast cancer. This was pushed by the Susan J. Komen foundation that did not actually contribute to research to actually stop breast cancer.
I think a good majority of people were Already aware of breast cancer, but it made people feel good to wear pink and join together.
