After uninstalling McAfee, it leaves behind program that slows down and locks up computer

I'll state right off, I'm not the most tech savvy guy, even though I can create monster spreadsheets to do whatever I need with data. With that said, here is something I just learned about a virus software. My computer was continuously slowing down and almost unusable. This coincided immediately after my complimentary McAfee Virus Protector expired. I wasn't sure if I wanted to renew or go with a different brand, so I delayed taking action. My computer then began to slow down a lot, so I decided to uninstall the McAfee program. After removing the McAfee program, my computer began to lock up continuously. It was like ad scripts were running and making my computer freeze whenever I went to a new web page. I discovered I could control-alternate-delete and then cancel to kick start it and get it to working again. I would have to do this about 3 or 4 times every time I opened a new page or topic on this board. I finally decided to just get another computer because I figured this one had some serious issues. Through conversations with the sales rep, I found out that McAfee leaves behind a program to do exactly what mine was doing to push people towards renewing their virus subscription. You have to go to the McAfee site and download a second uninstall program to complete removal of the McAfee software. I just completed it and my computer is 100 times faster with no freeze ups.

A link to that second software would be useful

That's just the ghost of John McAfee tormenting you. You have to offer some sort of a sacrifice to appease him.

Well, he murdered a guy in Belize so this isn’t the worst thing he’s done.

That should be enough to be sued to oblivion and be left as a smear in computer history.
Instead McAfee has $3 Billion in revenue.

Yes I have had the same thing.
Both McAfee and Norton infect the system right at expiration time.

It is called the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool, also known as MCPR. You have to do a search on their website to find it and download it. It took me a little while to find it - Instructions and Link

I recently got a new computer and the very first thing I did was remove McAfee.
A few years ago my brother called me to go look at their computer. It was freezing up. He told me that they were getting something from McAfee and then it just froze. They couldn't do anything. Unplugged it and when it would try to reboot it would just freeze. I told them it looks fricked, but I wasn't sure and asked someone else who knew more than me to look at it.
The computer was pretty old and they needed to upgrade anyway, which they ended up doing, but I have no clue what the hell happened.. All I know is that it was likely the McAfree software that caused their issue.
Is it microsoft or the computer that you buy (I don't know if it comes with all brands that have windows) that has McAfee? Why do they put it on there? From what I understand it is good to use on networks, but its complete shite for PCs.

I went through all of the same things with it in the mid 2000's, but fortunately had a more tech savvy nerd friend to help me with it.
McAfee is basically ransomeware, and there should be much wider consumer warnings about the fraud. It's the Black Hand of computer software, require you to keep paying protection money unless you want an unfortunate accident to befall your poor computer.
Dead or alive, John McAfee knows when he has you by the short and curlies, and he ain't letting go.

I have recently received emails, first notifying me my subscription was about to expire, then that my subscription had expired. I didn’t even know I had this, what am I in for?

Why do they put it on there?
The best thing you can do with a brand new PC is format it and install the OS from scratch.
