When did amber alerts in Texas start also being sent thru the Public Safety alert?

No mention of threat to public, and alert page just lists it as an Amber Alert without any additional threat to public noted.

Have received 2 public safety alerts for a missing black child taken by his mother and was last seen in July.

Not sure if new, someone out in Heartland and Crandall Texas messing things up, or some kind of bug from Apple routing Amber alerts thru public safety alerts.

I have Amber alerts turned off at house and at night, so I am not sure if this alert is getting double alerts each time thru both the Amber Alert system and the public safety system.

If these have been doubled each time then I have another theory on why, but I didn’t think Texas had imported enough Californians yet to have this happen.

Don’t you mean “Ebony Alert?”

With as many kids who go missing every day, how do they decide which ones qualify for an actual amber alert to be broadcast?

Seems like we would have about 100 a day

I have wondered this for a very long time

Also baffles me whenever we get a silver alert for some old crazy person who has gone missing in a city six hours away.

Every Amber Alert in Texas is “Hector Gonzales abducted by Rodrigo Gonzales”

Yeah.. I’ll get right on solving that Mexican domestic situation

Turn off the alerts on typical court appointed custody drop off days and you’re golden. Hector gets a flat tire or finishing Cowboys game? A kid that came from his loin is being kidnapped by his father.

There is a list and info that they have to meet and have for alert to use Amber system, but Texas recently gave local cops more leeway to send them out even if not completely compliant on that.

This was an hour away and a domestic kidnapping situation, but besides the kid and the mom last being seen back in July while sending out alerts to look now and the distance away, it went through the Public Safety Alerts channel which is for an area under some type of public threat or danger.

It may have also gone thru the Amber Alert channel as well. I had that off.

I was wondering if an error by those local cops (using wrong alert) or doubling alerts for some reason like some people have turned the Amber Alerts off so using another alert that’s more likely on or doubling alerts due to pressure because of the race involved.

EDIT: Actually got a 3rd public safety alert an hour ago for same situation, but I guess public safety alerts do not override do not disturb sound settings like emergency alerts can be set to do.

Turned mine off a few years ago after too many wee morning hour wakups.

Was probably a good idea when it started but is now being abused like every once well intended government program.
