I did Ownwell twice living in Humble. They did ok the 1st time filed it got a little bit of a reduction. You have to supply info, comps etc they just file it.
Second time they totally dropped the ball didn’t file it on time, they didn’t realize until I kept calling/emailing them. I had to do it myself and then they wanted their 25% was like no sir that’s not happening.

No wonder Onwell they cost half what a lawyer does. Novotny pulls all that data for you.

O’Connor and Associates does a decent job, and you split the tax savings with them, but no charge if they can’t lower it.

Ah yes you have now officially been welcomed to Montgomery county Texas.,,you will have to go and fight the appraisal district every year. Some years you will take back a little from them (fractions) and other years they will just pat you on the head and say silly man just move along and pay the taxes. You have to look at it as a sort of economic moat. I have been here nearly 25 years and this property tax insanity is out of control. Your insurance is going to pop about every year as well. Texas is a no income tax state but boy they get theirs via property taxes in a big way. It is tax deductible so you have that going for ya. Oh yeah and watch out for those ever rising yearly POA fees. They like to get theirs as well.

I’ve never contested property taxes in my life and I’ve been a home owner for the last 19 years. This one was a kick in the balls
Make sure you get in with a good one. Most are lazy tPOS who just take your money.

Just contest it and provide your closing documents to the appraisal district as support. They'll lower it to what you paid. Its a pretty easy process.

Yup, I went through this as well.

That’s what I’m going to try.

Between healthcare premiums and taxes, this country is making it impossible to retire at a decent age. There’s a huge transition to retire early in other countries and I may be jumping on board soon.

Preach. I live in Sugar Lakes and know all too well about the property tax mafia.

But you'll have to rent an office to go to for your retirement hustle.

In Texas homestead appraisals are capped at 10% maximum annually.
The problem with that is if your appraisal goes up 10% annually then in just over 7 years your house appraisal will have doubled.
I can vouch that my SS check will not double over the next 7 years.

Seniors have an increased exemption and capped taxes, and the state legislature is working to increase the tax cuts for seniors

find this hard to believe as if the house sales, the jurisdictions use the sale price as the value 99% of the time. And even if it’s true, your taxable value can only go up 10% per year.
25 yrs ago I worked for the company that took over Montgomery County's tax and appraisal software from a legacy provider.

Unless the law has changed 10% is the just the max threshold your appraised value can increase without you being able to protest it.
So yea an increase of >10% happens often. But you can request to have it explained and validated or else reduced.
