What did you like so much more about the MF?
I used to spend a lot of time on an 1135. I liked that big bastard a lot. Just a damn reliable, very heavy, old school no frills farm tractor.

How are the Kubota zero turns?
I have the Z724 with a Kawa gas burner. Its been a great machine. Love the way it cuts compared to the Hustler I have. Kubota is heavier so it rides a little better, but it will get stuck where the Hustler wont.

I have a Ford 8N built in 1953 that runs like a top

Have had 1000's of hours experience on JD and Massey, but only 100hp and up. JD has had a lot of electrical issues, but the 6000 series are made in Germany but the smaller USA made models may not have these issues. I have ran my cousins Kubota, very impressed by it. I didn't like the foot lever controls at first, but after a couple of hours I told my wife we'd be getting one soon.

You can find decent deals on low hour JD 790's. Probably under $10k and you can actually still work on them without having to go to a dealer with their new BS tech policies.

Find a lightly and responsibly used Kubota. They've been around in the US forever. JD doesn't want you to be able to work on theirs. Most of the rest, including some big names will have some kind of off brand motor that is hit or miss on parts. Kubota tractor is all Kubota. Parts aren't cheap, but are available.

Same with my Z726XKW. Mows great, bounces a bit, doesn’t like soft ground.
My M7040 4WD with a front end loader has lasted 17 years with regular maintenance and minimal repair.

Kubota gets my vote as well. Looking at the various models, Bobcat and Caterpillar are outfitted with the bells and whistles. Super reliable machine, but more pricey. Kubota is the working man's class reliable tough machines and you can get them with any range of options.
I personally can't bring myself to want a Deere.
Father inlaw has a Mahindra and it has worked very well for him. I don't know much about Mahindra though outside of his experience.

I have a 46HP LS. It does what I want it to do. It was cheaper than orange or green, but I would lean orange if I had to to do it again. I had an ECM go out last year and it was out of warranty. Other than that the tractor has been great. I will say this....if you are thinking 30HP, go 45 or something close to that. You won't regret that but you will regret not doing it.

I've got an '09 JD and if I bump the key it cranks right up
As far as newer tractors, we’ve steered clear of them. Probably newest in the fleet is 2006 or so. Past that, they get into computers and systems that can only be maintained by Deere. There’s a reason the Deere 4020 we bought used in 1990 is worth 3x what we paid back then. And, no, it’s not for sale.

Kubota owns the thread, but I’ll throw Mahindra out there. I don’t have it anymore, but I had zero problems with the one I had for about five years before I sold it because I didn’t really need a tractor anymore.

Deere 4020
One of the best tractors ever made. I've spent more hours on a 4020 than about anything. Great tractor. When we added the sun shade umbrella I thought we were living large.

I have a Deere but probably will not buy another due to me hating my local dealer mechanic dept.
Next probably a Kubota. I know 2 fellas who have Mahindras and they are happy with them also.

Love my ZD221, 2nd owner. First owner took very good care of it. No major problems yet. 3 cylinder sips fuel, and also don't miss dealing with carb stuff each year. I've had it for six years or so, scheduled maintenance is all it has needed. Weighs a shite ton though. Beats my old Exmark for reliability, but the Exmark had a better cut in my opinion.
Try to get one that has been maintained gas or diesel, Kubota is very proud of their parts, but they are also solid parts.

From front end loader work to spraying to fertilizing and bush hogging on slopes, if I could have every tractor in HST I would take the horsepower loss and get it.

quote:Alot of things, but to be fair there were some things I didn't like, e.g., turning radius, DEF consumption, clutch travel can be a little tricky at first, etc., but so life goes.
What did you like so much more about the MF?
The main things are weight (a heavy tractor is almost always a good thing, as you know), tires (New Holland's competition came with bias, yuck), shuttle shift mechanisms, some other operator bells and whistles and standard additions that cost extra on others, 3 remote hydraulic hook ups (I like independent use of each side of a batwing), cab and seat, hydraulic flow, wet clutch (alot of heavy use applications), serviceability, and more. It just fit what I needed better than the others.
I was buying at the tail end of Covid, so dealer inventory left alot to be desired, but in the end I'm very happy with it. Just a solid, comfortable, hard working hunnerd horse. If I ever have problems with my dealer I have another just as close that I can do business with. If not for that assurance I might have gone another route, but 1000 hours in I'm glad I didn't so far.

Kubota. But also, whatever service center is closed to you. I wouldn’t buy a Kubota when a massy center is 2 miles down the road.
I say that with a Kubota dealership 5 miles down the road.
