Anybody old enough to remember the 1994-95 Marlboro watches? (CSB)

The Swiss Army watches you could get for collecting Marlboro miles? Back then, you couldn't find the stainless/ luminous dial Cavalry watch in stores and I had already spent my miles on the original black with red bezel watch...closest you could come to the Marlboro Cavalry version was the gun metal cased one below with a black or white dial, so I bought it somewhere in the mall ($100 - I think) and traded it
for the Marlboro version (both watches brand new and in the box) with a bartender I worked with. I wanted the stainless case w the cream dial and luminous hands/numbers cuz it was a throw back to the WWI "trench watch" - a small pocket watch worn on the wrist that could be read in the dark.
I wore that bitch for almost 2 years until my sister gave me a Tag for graduation in '96.
A month or so ago my wife found it in a box of graduate school shite in the attic. The leather band was dry rotted, and the old battery had leaked inside and fried the movement...but the crystal was immaculate, and the case was pretty scratched, but no dings or dents.
I knew shite about watch repair, but did some research and found a replacement movement - Ronda 515, as the 315 is now obsolete- for about $14, and a Wenger band for about $20. Learned how to remove the stem and crown, face and hands...had a few near-disasters with static electricity, but finally resurrected an old friend. I used a four-grade nail file/buffer from CVS ($10) to remove scratches and polish the case best I could:
I took a pic of the back to show...in spite of what E-bay claims, this is NOT a Victorinox or a Wenger watch. Wenger didn't buy Swiss Army Brand until 200? and Victorinox bought it from Wenger after that. These 1995 watches were made in USA with swiss movements exclusively for the Marlboro Country Store by Swiss Army Brand, a US company. The e-bayers want $175 and up for never-taken-out-of-box "Victorinox" Marlboro Cavalry watches...and I guarantee the movements are fried if the batteries have been in them all along.
ETA: I just realized I am wearing this watch in my LSU graduation pictures with my parents, as I wasn't given the new one till after the ceremony...

Congrats on smoking cigarettes for a watch.

Congrats.
On the cancer, not the watch.

Yeah, my uncle smoked enough cancer sticks to give me some rain suits and a soft sided cooler, ironically I used as a first aid kit, for my bass boat...

I remember when people use to get free shite if they saved something from each pack they smoked.. I never smoked a cigarette in my life (I am not saying this to sound cool, but ive smoked weed, however; my dad smoked for a long time & I hated the smell. Plus he would tell me how hard it was to quit. The only way he was able to quit was to go cold turkey, that just worked for him better than trying to smoke less and less or trying patches)... But yeah, I use to think it was trashy when someone wore a Marlboro jacket or hat... Because it meant they smoked a lot of fricking cigarettes.

I had the leather shaving kit bag and used it up until about a year ago.
Marlboro only put that small M brand on their shite. Tasteful. Not like the Joe Camel shite.
I don't remember seeing a Marlboro hat or jacket outside of NASCAR...Maybe its Winston I'm thinking of...

I knew a guy who had a ton of that stuff. He had the party house in the area, and all the smokers combined forces.
I recall a dart board and an inflatable raft, among other items.

Smoking isn't nearly as trashy as 90% of the redneck/coonass shite you guys from the gulf do on a daily basis.

I kinda miss tobacco company schwag.
When I did event marketing they were our bread and butter. frick Obama once again for killing off that business for us.
We could add a zero to any invoice and they gladly paid to give out samples at our events. I would randomly get stuff in the mail pretty often. One of the coolest that I actually used alot was a mini dominoes set in a stainless steel case. Lots of games of Dominoes to kill down time were played with those.
and OP that watch is looking pretty snazzy too

Thanks. I've always liked it, and am thrilled it's back to life.
I certainly wouldn't pay $175 for another one, though.

Skoal/Copenhagen did this in the early 90's. I mailed in a shite ton of kids for a bar clock.

My dad had one for the longest time. Probably up until about 5 years ago. He quit smoking shortly after he got the watch. I always thought it was funny Marlboro gave you free stuff for basically slowly killing yourself with their product.
