Anybody Tipping on Curbside Pickup?

This evening on the way home from work I ordered my dinner from the Persian place and picked it up curbside. The woman from the restaurant explicitly pointed out where I should write the tip amount on the receipt.

What's the rule for curbside pickup? I normally give a 20% tip if I am dining in, and don't tip for take out.

This curbside thing seems a little in between. They won't let you go inside to get the takeout but send someone to your car with it.

For pizza delivery, I tip a flat $5. But this seemed less effort. I was thinking maybe $3 but felt like they'd be insulted. I ended up leaving no tip.

I'm trying to support my favorite restaurants by "eating out" a little more. How are you guys dealing with the tip for curbside?

I always tip a few bucks when I pick up. So I’m doing the same for curbside.

I never usually tip when I pickup, but I’d definitely tip in these times where it’s their only option.

Young girl was working her arse off at Whataburger yesterday and having to deal with ridiculous culcha in front of me.

I rarely carry cash but I had a $5 on me for whatever reason and she earned every penny and then some.

Generally, I don’t tip at all for takeout. Maybe a dollar.

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve pretty much tipped like I would have had I dined in, especially if it’s clear it’s a server working, and certainly if it’s a restaurant I frequent. I’m still working and don’t need the money. They do right now.

Usually I tip 2 bucks for take out. If it's over 50 bucks total, I might tip 5.



During this time, I would probably tip as if I was dining in because they are probably struggling and I'm not a cheap loser.

We picked up from one of our favorite brew pubs the other night. Ordinarily we would have drank two craft beers but since we didn't I added the cost of two beers to the tip. Just seemed like the right thing to do.

eta: 10% absolute minimum right now and unless you are struggling, do the right thing and go at least 20%
