To all you wanna be smart arse Captain Obvious types I was clear in my post that what I am seeing is unusual for THIS TIME OF YEAR.

I was actually wondering, assuming there was no UPS issue I was unaware of, if this year's BF/CM season has hit some critical mass point for UPS.

A buddy works for UPS. He says the majority of the workers are pulling 60 hours a week to compensate for the extra work this month.

Well shite, the entire volume of ups business is dependent on how much you personally ordered this year.

At work I receive 15-40 packages a day....since Thanksgiving it’s been horrid...sometimes nothing, then 60 the next day....normal route driver not coming and replacement driver says it’s a shite show

I work for them. I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens around this time of year it’s called peak season for a reason .

What happens with that is sometimes the loaders place them on the wrong truck and another driver has to go and get that package off of the wrong truck and then deliver it. It just takes a lot of extra time. Or sometimes even the heavy loads can slow the drivers down.

Some of the trucks we load have been about 300-400 packages a day and it’s only gonna get heavier as we get into Christmas.

And another thing that happens sometimes, some packages can’t even get placed on the delivery truck because the stickers are incorrect and it has to be put through the process again. Or sometimes just the trucks are too full and they have to wait until a 2nd truck is available to take certain loads in order to get orders out on time. But of course that costs them more money and they don’t like to do that.

They pick up seasonal help on delivery trucks. But some of the drivers hate it. My brother in law did that 2 or 3 years ago. He needed some money and worked crazy hours for a month, hauling packages up and down steep driveways here in Birmingham. The route he was on, they would basically park in the middle of a stretch of road and walk over a dozen packages to all the houses nearby. Said several of the drivers complained that it actually slowed them down. What it probably meant was they could have justified a few 12+ hour days each week and make a ton of OT, but instead they end up working 9 hours every day.

FedEx has been delivering early for me these last few weeks. I can't say the same for UPS.

I know someone that drives for them. He says they have semi trucks full of packages that can't even get processed the day they arrive at their distribution center. For example, If I am in Tuscaloosa, and I am getting a package via UPS, it is likely sitting in Montgomery for a couple of days instead of 4-5 hours like normal. Combine the season with being the primary shipper for Amazon, and it's unavoidable.
