Are there more homeless people?

I know we always point to San Francisco and Seattle as examples of the homeless problem in the US, but it’s worse in general, right? I went to New Orleans recently for the first time in ages, and there were probably 10 tents under this one overpass. It wasn’t like that even a decade ago. The Westchase area of Houston has always had panhandlers, but there is one at every single intersection now. You even occasionally see panhandlers at large intersections in nicer suburban areas outside the city, and that’s definitely a new thing. What is going on? Is it fentanyl or something else.

There are more when the number of them goes up.
Hope this helps.

The insane cost of living probably isn't helping things.

Society has become more complex. About 15% of the population is too stupid to have consistent employment. Throw in the druggies and the crazies, and we have a bad situation that will only get worse.

This is actually reducing the number of homeless.

Those guys don’t vote. They don’t count.

The middle class can barely afford their homes and food. I don't know how 100% of the poor aren't homeless.

Half of Louisiana’s population already lives like they’re homeless

When white liberals are in charge, there are more homeless. That's how it works

I honestly wonder if all the panhandlers are homeless. The ones who have worked the same spots for years must live nearby, somewhere.
I also think something about our society is making the number of homeless increase. Sort of like London around the turn of the century (1900.)

What? We're on the winning side of one of these lists

Yes, and they bitch about it while on their MacBook at Starbucks drinking an $8 soy latte. Cry me a river

This right here. And most people in civil society never interact with these people and hence don’t understand. They’ll say something like “learn to code” to some guy who doesn’t have the mental capacity to pick up trash off the road.

Yeah that’s it, not the smoking meth and fentanyl under a bridge.
And for the op.

Well we have jobs now that used to require no degree, require a degree. We have jobs that used to require a degree that now require a graduate degree.
We def fricked this up a long the way.

The homeless are all gone. They are now "unhoused".

I think it's a dramatic increase in drug use and mental illness coupled with a more permissive society willing to allow homeless communities to exist and proliferate.
