- A batch of recently executed search warrants is shedding new light on the case for Asha Degree.
The series of warrants, which spanned Cleveland, Lincoln and Mecklenburg counties, indicates a chilling new detail: investigators believe the girl “is a victim of homicide, with her body concealed.”
Also new in the documents, though, is the naming of suspects.
Asha – who was nine at the time of her disappearance – was last seen on Feb. 14, 2000, walking along Highway 18 in Shelby. As investigators have over the years, the new warrants state that as she was walking, she “was seen being pulled into a 1970s green Lincoln, Thunderbird or another similar vehicle.” That was the last time anyone reported seeing her.
The warrants said that after the evidence was collected, it was sent for analysis and returned two positive DNA samples. One of the samples belonged to Russell Bradley Underhill, and the other to AnnaLee Victoria Dedmon Ramirez.
Investigators found that a couple, Roy and Connie Dedmon, were the common link between Underhill and AnnaLee Victoria Dedmon Ramirez, and identified them as suspects.
Authorities determined AnnaLee, who was 13 at the time Asha went missing, is the couple’s daughter. Underhill lived in at least two facilities operated by the couple, and a healthcare services consent form listed Roy Dedmon as his emergency contact. He died in 2004.
The couple has two other children, who were ages 16 and 15 when Asha was last seen. Because of their ages, the warrant said “investigators believe adult assistance from Roy Dedmon and Connie Dedmon would have been necessary in the execution and/or concealment” of any crimes committed.

I've thought about her a lot over the years. The little details about what she was wearing, her little schedule, etc. get to you.
The cops really never gave up. Some people still give a shite.

Could be misreading, but it seems to me that some tedious connect-the-dots detective work finally paid off and once the connection was noticed, all sorts of disgusting physical evidence was just there for the asking. Apparently some wackjob local 13-year-old boy kidnapped and killed her. His parents covered it all up for him.

And now that kid is 37. How does the state even try a 37 year old for a crime he committed at 13? Are they just gonna put the cover up on the parents?

Child who went missing in 2000

The part that bothers me is her running away in the first place.
It was cold, rainy, and it was the dead of night. Why on earth would a 10-year-old pack her school bag and just leave home like that, walking near a busy highway?
That never made sense.

everything i read and watched about her suggested that she was enticed by someone to meet them somewhere...i don't know if there was actual evidence of that, or just supposition, but i guess it would make sense...

Ah, that would make sense. I could understand her leaving if she had a bad home life, but that was apparently not the case.

Is it the 13-year old suspect a boy or a girl? The name sounds like a girl to me.
