CBS news
Am I the only one who’s thinking the bigger concern is ATT keeping recordings of all our phone calls and storing all of our private texts? They claim to not have the content, but I don’t necessarily believe them
quote:
AT&T on Friday disclosed that hackers had accessed records of calls and texts of "nearly all" of its cellular customers for a six-month period between May 1, 2022 to Oct. 31, 2022.
In its statement, AT&T said the compromised data doesn't include the content of the calls or texts, or personal information such as Social Security numbers, birth dates or other personally identifiable information.

Yeah I was in the process of quoting article and amending my statement. I am not sure I believe them.

Rest assured.
“AT&T remains committed to the privacy of its customers.”

I just assume everything is recorded somewhere these days.
It's gonna be nice when this shite all blows up one day and we revert back to minimal/limited cell phones and internet. Gonna be just like the late 90s/early 00s. Good times.

While this would be better for everyone, that genie is never going back into the bottle

Call records are not recordings. Just a timestamp, source and destination numbers, call duration.

is ATT keeping recordings of all our phone calls and storing all of our private texts?

I imagine they mean who called whom, how long, etc. ie what we used to get in our phone statements. No one has the bandwith to record that many calls or store the actual text messages. NSA doesn't even do that

Thank god I didn’t send any d*ck pics during that timeframe.
Dodged one there.

Probably why I keep getting pulled out for additional security screening when re-entering the good ole USA

Their website and app are so putrid, I'm shocked even the hackers could find any info.

Just assume Russia or China has your dick pics.
But LOL at reading this and comparing it to the large ATT outage at the beginning of the year caused by “sun flares”.

I just fail to understand what’s the benefit of this for the hackers, and why is this such an issue for us?

AT&T are such cock gobblers. Just got done with a dispute with AT&T. Long story short, check your phone bill every month. I don’t normally because it’s auto pay and on a family share plan not as the primary account holder. They had been charging us for 2 devices (~$65/mo) for the last 16 months that weren’t in use. Customer service presumed the culprit was an AT&T associate, probably the schmuck who upgraded my mom’s phone roughly around the same time the charges first were traced back to. Said it happens all the time. I asked if it happens so often then why isn’t AT&T monitoring for it and protecting their customers? She had no answer. Now I have to get it resolved by filing a fraud claim and await their investigation’s conclusion before they reimburse us. This Bryce character better hope I don’t run into him at Sonic someday.
