In relation to the 401k thread yesterday. My king ranch is worth more than half people in the 30-40 age range. Unreal.

I don't even know what your king ranch is worth and I can already confirm this in regards to myself.

Interesting how it goes down from 18-24 to 25-29.

This is a low key brag thread and I approve.
Come on OT, tell us how rich you are.

retirement is going to be a myth soon enough
people just don't know how to save money, plus society continually is cranking up the cost of living through inflation and wages haven't kept up at all
add in bad government policies like subsidizing student loans allowing for a student loan crisis to bloom and kill the ability of younger people to invest in things like equity and real estate, and you've got yourself a road to serfdom

Significant debt taken on at that stage of life for many different reasons.

I doubt I have a liquid 12k at the moment.
But my net worth is apparently strongly in the 7 figures because of land.
I sure don't feel like it a I'm eating my brown bag.

With inflation, a happy meal cost more than $5

Those numbers are ridiculous. I don’t know many 60-70 yr olds worth over a million dollars. Much less the average.

Well. It's better than $3.50.

I would guess that people who understand how averages and medians work probably tend to have a net worth closer to the average than the median.

I'm below average but above median. What am I? Responsible or a dead beat?

Average is influenced by billionaires and millionaires with generational wealth. One of them is worth more than hundreds of thousands of regular Americans. Averages will always be skewed with outliers like the ultra wealthy.
The median simply means that half are above that net worth, half are below that net worth. It's more useful when dealing with outliers like you do when talking about wealth.
Above median means you're doing better than most in your age group.

Yeah, those numbers all look really high to me. I suspect some of those age ranges have negative net worth on average.

If you're at the median net worth it means that 50% of people are worth more, 50% are worth less.

I feel like I don't do anything close to enough saving wise, and I'm way above the median for my age group just in my retirement accounts. Got even more when factoring overall net worth. Makes me feel a little better
