Baton Rouge area trail runs

In an effort to mix it up and for a change of scenery from my usual running routes, I’m trying to find some info/trails, if any exists, on Barron Rouge area trails for runs, and trail races. Does anyone know if we have any races or groups that meet? I was thinking the St. Francisville area would likely be the best bet.
The varsity sports employee was unsure. Maybe the backpacker would know?

The BREC website has the full list of trails in the BR area. Most aren't worth mentioning outside of Burden, Blackwater/Comite River Park, and maybe Highland Road Park.

The Beast is incredibly popular and about 35 minutes north of Baton Rouge in St Francisville.
Totes Free and part of a pretty busy park. Your vehicle should be fine.
I've walked half of it a few times. My son ran a xc meet that used part of the trail. It's surprisingly difficult to do the whole ~8 miles. But you can pop out right by the flat ground park at a bunch of spots so it's relatively safe if you're worried about fatigue/heat.

If you have Strava, follow Michael Demarco. He runs all over BR. Saw he ran some sort of a rail or power line trail in BR not too long ago, looked wild.

Saw this post early today and decided to try the hike. I did it! It is a BEAST. The bridges have been replaced with new ones not too long ago. They were probably the best part, cutting through and along the ravines. They've added some things to the park since the pic above was taken. The baseball field has astroturf(?). There were some pretty steep inclines that would have been very difficult with a bike. The way the trail is in some parts it's like walking back and forth on the same trail.
If somebody really wants to see a few not so great pics let me know and I'll post.

It's surprisingly difficult to do the whole ~8 miles"
The link lists it as 4.9 miles.

Google WHOA Racing & Q50 Racing. Both of these do trail races or crazy endurance ultras. Q50 had some coming up in August. WHOA has the Cane Field Classic in October and the medal is a cane knife.

I believe you come back to trailhead around that 5 mile and there's another trail that brings it over 7 miles if you do both. I think.
The Beast Trail

The Beast is accessed through the West Feliciana Parks and Recreation Complex. It is approximately 8 miles long. The challenging trail is known for its beautiful ravines, very steep bluffs, several wooden bridges and spectacular views.

I used to love to get up at 4am before the sun was out and run Garfield street down to Roosevelt park. It was nice because everyone was already up and getting after it.

I have 2 of them and may add another this year and it is a fun race and well managed.

Port Hudson (Though tread lightly due to its historical context). Mary Ann Brown Nature Preserve, Frenchtown Conservation Area, The Beast Trail, Highland Rd community park, Comite (Mt. Bikes have right of way), Hooper Park (Same)

Best Trail I've ever hiked is Clarks Creek in Woodville MS. It's just under an hour to get there from Zachary LA. Get there early as parking fills up quickly on the weekends.

That Walker Higgins is one one piece of ace!

He's a friend of mine and I've been friends with his wife about 25 yrs.
It's absolutely a great event. Does Kyle still come out and cater the food? Some dang good vittles the 3 yrs we made it out there.
