Surprisingly, Winnfield has a few. These are the best preserved. There are some others that are either in crappy neighborhoods or poorly maintained.
I have done nothing but drive thru there a few hundred times. Winnfield seems like an alright country town

Yeah but you couldn’t build and furnish the house for anywhere close to the asking price. Considering the land it’s on it's actually a good deal - as much as a $3MM home in MC can be a deal.

It is, but damn it use to be so much better. Just the fate of most small cities/towns in the South it seems.

The guy in Delhi invented the battery in your cell phone. He owns a huge sweet potato operation up there or did a few years back. He built that house and wanted water access to the new reservoir they built up there so he built his own canal to it, including a bridge on a state highway.

How the hell did he end up in Delhi? Seems really random unless he had family ties to there.

The home was moved to Cameron Parish from Lake Charles by Alexander (I forget his first name) who is a lawyer. He had a ghey older brother named Orville who designed interiors of Continental Airlines (and died from AIDS)
Just past Big Lake Old Settlement. I sure miss spending time at Old Settlement

Along Hwy 61, most seem to be falling apart. Some look abandoned in Port Gibson.

Thanks, I had forgotten the part of being moved in pieces. Would have had to cross a ferry back in the day to get there

Very sad. Noticed that my last time through.. They used to be kept up well for the most part. A lot of them were BnBs.
Chamberlain-Hunt being shut down is also damned sad.

Had something to do with the soil and climate for growing sweet potatoes. I’m not kidding.

I was checking some in the general area. I think the underlying point of the thread is older homes, but I came across this off of Smith Road, NE of Covington off Stafford Rd.
Baseball diamond and field. Basketball/Tennis court? Some golf course action but can’t tell the extent. Lazy River? I can’t even tell what the structures look like but seems extensive.
ETA: looks like a 9 hole at least.
Pretty crazy.

The Mermentau castle is one of the weirdest.

Le Petit Chateau de Luxe (The Small Luxury Castle) sits on 19 acres that has been in the Desormeaux family for more than 150 years. While in France, Mr. Louis Desormeaux found three of his favorite castles and used those designs to create his own in Mermentau. The construction began in 1962 and it’s now a 15,000 square foot castle with 30 rooms including a formal dining room, breakfast room, wine cellar, and a large kitchen and pantry. There is also three functioning fireplaces with hand-carved marble mantels from the 16th century. Le Petit Chateau de Luxe sits along the Mermentau River surrounded by large Evangeline oaks, magnolias, and elm trees. Unfortunately, the castle is only visible from the Mermentau River.

Located on Castle Cove Road off La. 92, six miles southeast of Jennings, the chateau sits on a sprawling 19 acres surrounded by large Evangeline oaks, magnolias and elm trees. The property has been in the Desormeaux family for more than 150 years and continues to be expanded.
Construction on the chateau began in 1962, combining the designs Desormeaux's father drew from four different castles he had seen in France. The front section, which faces the Mermentau River, resembles a fortress with a watchtower and small, inaccessible windows. It took six different crews 10 years of bricklaying and about 300,000 bricks to complete the three-story chateau and surrounding solid brick walls.
Louis Desormeaux died in 1991, but construction continues today on his dream chateau. Future plans include a surrounding village with shops and a walkway to the Mermentau River with a formal garden surrounded by the moss-covered oak trees and magnolias leading to the river.
Desormeaux, his wife and three children moved into the chateau shortly after his father's death to protect the property from being vandalized. They occupy six of the castle's 30 rooms.
Inside features include a formal dining room, breakfast room, wine cellar and a large kitchen and pantry with a 200-year-old black walnut table from France. Three functioning fireplaces all with hand-carved marble mantels dating back to the 16th century also bring life to the chateau.

Drive the back way down Hwy 437 from Franklinton to Barkers corner and East of Folsom.
my parents live off 16 between Enon and Franklinton. Coming up 437, I've passed this spread a thousand times. It is/was known as Carden Farms and set off the Hwy overlooking a pond out front. Usually there are 10-15 Canadian geese in the pond. There are several houses on the property where the groundskeepers live. That place is always meticulously clean and grounds well maintained. It may have been sold within the last several years, I was always told that no one resides in the big house ... someone on TD who lives near there may have the skinny. Hard to get a good picture quality as I had to do screen shots

The family owned more property at one time (25 years ago ?) as it looks like some was sold off the develop homes along the south side of the lake. The house and pond are circled in red top left
