Hi all,
Newbie here, moving to the Baton Rouge area from SC soon as the wife has accepted a position at LSU. What's the best furniture store in the area selling good quality furniture? We're going to be in town in a couple weeks and hope to get a lot of the furnishing out of the way before our actual move a in a couple months. Appreciate any help!

Ashley Homestore gets crapped on a lot but I've purchased numerous sets of furniture each standing the test of time.

If you're looking for mattresses, check out Wholesale Mattress Factory on Florida Blvd. They make their own mattresses, boxsprings etc. and they're top quality and way cheaper than anything else you'll find anywhere. I got a top-of-the-line pillow top mattress for under $1000 including the boxspring and it's the best mattress I've ever owned.

Be careful with them. They do carry some quality stuff, but they also carry some crap. I've bought some stuff from them and been burnt by them also. Don't be fooled by any "special discount" they offer to give you. That's just pretty much their standard price. EVERYONE gets the "discount". I bought some furniture their to replace my flooded furniture. They told me they were offering a 15% discount to all flood victims. At the same time, they were running a "End of Year 15% off sale". But you could not use both discounts. WTF? So what good is the flood victim discount? If you notice, they ALWAYS have a sale going on.

Ride down Burbank near LSU at the end of a semester and you can furnish your home for free.

Stoma's has some nice stuff, but I think most people are good with the selection Olindes provides.
Basset too, but that is generic across the country.

We went looking there for furniture for our new home. $5000 for one couch? No thanks.

You'll never buy another couch though.
Buying cheap furniture is like leasing a car.

You have to watch for their sales. I've never bought anything full price there.

one more place I've bought furniture from is Dillards in the Mall of Louisiana.

Is that on Perkins? I think they changed their name unless I'm thinking of someone else.

They could have. Havent been in several years. Not really my style of furniture, but the quality was good.

Personal preference I guess. I prefer to buy cheaper furniture and update every couple years. I can buy 10 $500 couches that will last me 20 years and not look old.
